Japan Aqua Sommelier Association and Korea International Sommelier Association Sign MOU to Promote Water Culture

The Japan Aqua Sommelier Association (JASA) and the Korea International Sommelier Association (KISA) have agreed to form a partnership aimed at promoting water culture and professional exchange, and have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).

This partnership is based on mutual respect and non-profit cooperation, aiming to strengthen the professional network and friendly relations between the two countries through mutual participation in events and seminars, and the sharing of knowledge about water.

The signing took place at the beginning of the "2026 World Water Day: 4th International Premium Water Symposium," held on March 20, 2026, at the Pullman Ambassador Seoul East Pole Hotel in South Korea. Directors Ruriko Suzuki and Shinya Inoue from the Japan Aqua Sommelier Association attended the event in person.

At the symposium, where experts from various countries engaged in lively exchanges, Director Ruriko Suzuki served as a lecturer. She presented on the latest trends in PFAS regulations in Japan and the current state of the drinking water market, marking the first instance of professional knowledge exchange between the two countries.

Go Jaeyun, President of the Korea International Sommelier Association (and Professor Emeritus at Kyung Hee University), described the MOU signing as "an important opportunity for Korean and Japanese water sommeliers to grow together by sharing their experiences and expertise." Shinya Inoue, Director of the Japan Aqua Sommelier Association, also stated that it is "the first stage in connecting the water culture and educational systems of both countries." With this agreement as a catalyst, they aim to expand their international network through continued future exchanges.

【About the Japan Aqua Sommelier Association】
The Japan Aqua Sommelier Association was established in June 2008 as the Aqua Minerale Association, centered around mineral water manufacturers, importers, general chemical companies, and the aqua sommelier training school, Academedia. It was approved as a general incorporated association in December of the same year and changed its name to the Japan Aqua Sommelier Association in 2018. In collaboration with the aqua sommelier training school Academedia, it has certified approximately 1,000 aqua sommeliers to date.
