Stone Bath Sauna

Aquaignis Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Chuo-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director: Tetsuya Tachibana), which operates Aquaignis's別邸 "Yunosuke Sosuikyo," has introduced the "kupu sauna," a furniture-quality sauna jointly developed by MARUNI WOOD INDUSTRY Co., Ltd. (Hiroshima City, Hiroshima Prefecture; President: Hiroshi Yamanaka) and Libertyship Co., Ltd. (Miyazaki City, Miyazaki Prefecture; Representative Director: Seiya Agematsu, operator of sauna brand "ONE SAUNA"). This is the world's first accommodation facility to feature this sauna, allowing guests to fully enjoy saunas in a private space. Additionally, the rooms are equipped with MARUNI WOOD INDUSTRY's relaxation chair, the "kupu sauna chair." We offer a blissful retreat experience that resets accumulated physical and mental fatigue and restores your true self through sauna, cold water immersion, and outdoor air bathing.

Sosuikyo's Unique Sauna Experience

The new saunas have been introduced in two villas: "Kino Toki" (Wood Carving), themed around wood, and "Seki Ro" (Stone Rock), themed around stone. In line with the theme of each room, Kino Toki features a cypress water bath, and Seki Ro has a stone water bath weighing approximately 2 tons, carved from a giant rock quarried in Komono Town.

The water baths utilize groundwater from the Suzuka Mountains. This famous water, rich in natural minerals polished by nature over 100 years, allows you to fully experience the blessings of nature.

Installation of the Stone Bath

The original stone for the stone water bath weighed a massive approximately 6 tons! For this sauna, Mr. Yoichi Yamaguchi, a stonemason from Yamaguchi Stone, a local stone shop in Komono Town, personally selected the stone and began by excavating it from the mountain, with the goal of creating "something special that can only be experienced at Sosuikyo." To create the largest possible bath, it was carved as thinly as possible compared to a normal stone bath, finishing at approximately 2 tons. The interior is smoothly polished, and the bottom has been carefully designed to prevent slipping.

Hojicha Lye Showers Using Tea Leaves from Local Yokkaichi Mizusawa

Mizusawa Tea Fields

The kupu sauna, characterized by its half-dome curved structure, creates a unique experience where steam generated during lye showers circulates along the curved inner surface of the dome and gently falls onto the bather's back.

At Sosuikyo, you can enjoy hojicha (roasted green tea) lye showers using tea leaves from Mizusawa Town, Yokkaichi City, Mie Prefecture, known as a tea-producing region. First-flush tea leaves, known for their strong aroma, are luxuriously used. The fragrant aroma of hojicha is expected to provide a deeper relaxation effect.

About kupu sauna

Founded in Hiroshima in 1928, MARUNI WOOD INDUSTRY has pursued "industrialization of craftsmanship" and has produced products loved by architects and designers worldwide. To apply the woodworking technology cultivated in furniture manufacturing to the extreme environment of heat and steam in a sauna, designer Mr. Wataru Kumano (head of design office kumano) and ONE SAUNA, with its expertise in thermal and sensory design for sauna development, participated.

The "kupu sauna" was completed, achieving both furniture-level finishing precision and functional and aesthetic beauty by a product designer. Furthermore, for this kupu sauna, "Nara Yoshino Hinoki" cypress was used with the concept of creating a locally sourced sauna. The excellent qualities of Yoshino cypress, with its soft texture and characteristic of not becoming excessively hot, are maximized through furniture-quality finishing.
