Photographer Robert Doisneau made his name known worldwide with his masterpiece "The Kiss by the Hôtel de Ville".
This exhibition goes beyond the well-known image of "Lovers in Paris" to focus on the "endearing imperfections" captured by Doisneau's lens.
Rather than perfectly staged beauty, we present works that capture the humor, pathos, and fleeting dramas easily overlooked in everyday moments.
Small stories of nameless people, cut out with the sound of the shutter.
Come and find your own story within that singular moment.
Biography Robert Doisneau
Born in Gentilly, a suburb of Paris, in 1912. Studied lithography at the École Estienne and became an assistant to photographer André Vigneau. From 1949 to 1951, he worked as a contract photographer for Vogue magazine, shooting fashion and high society. He was highly acclaimed especially for his photographs capturing the everyday lives of ordinary Parisians, and in 1951, he was selected as an exhibiting artist along with Henri Cartier-Bresson, Brassaï, Willy Ronis, and Izis for the "Five French Photographers" exhibition held at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. In 1974, he became a special invited artist at the Rencontres d'Arles international photography festival. In 1992, a major retrospective exhibition "Tribute to Robert Doisneau" was held at the Museum of Modern Art, Oxford, UK. In 2000, to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the photograph, a large print of "The Kiss by the Hôtel de Ville" was displayed in the square in front of the Paris City Hall.
