AndTech Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Kawasaki City, Kanagawa Prefecture; President and CEO: Masao Tsuchiyama; hereinafter 'AndTech') will launch a Zoom-based lecture series titled 'Latest Technologies for High-Efficiency Next-Generation Perovskite Solar Cells – Materials and Interface Technologies for Single-Junction, All-PSC Tandem, and Si/CIGS Hybrid Applications and Implementation Outlook' as part of its R&D support program, featuring leading experts in perovskite solar cells.
Perovskite solar cells (PSCs) are lightweight and thin-film, enabling on-site power generation, and their widespread adoption is anticipated from the standpoint of energy security. Japan's Seventh Strategic Energy Plan sets a target of 20 GW of PSC installations by 2040. Current first-generation PSCs achieve around 15% power conversion efficiency (PCE) with approximately 10 years of durability. Research is now advancing toward second-generation PSCs with over 20% PCE and more than 20 years of durability, and third-generation PSCs targeting PCEs of around 30%. In particular, all-perovskite tandem cells, which stack wide- and narrow-bandgap cells, are expected to surpass the efficiency limits of silicon-based cells, with advanced material technologies such as crystal quality control, interface engineering, and passivation playing a key role. Additionally, heterojunction tandem cells with silicon or CIGS are progressing toward higher efficiency through lightweight flexible devices and recombination layer optimization. This lecture will explain promising pathways for next-generation photovoltaics.
The seminar is scheduled to launch on July 29, 2026.

Lecture 1: Latest Technological Development Trends in High-Efficiency Perovskite Solar Cells
【Presentation Overview】
Perovskite solar cells (PSCs) are attracting attention due to their potential to reduce dependency on high-risk countries for raw materials, from the perspectives of economic and energy security. Japan's Seventh Strategic Energy Plan sets a goal of installing 20 gigawatts of PSCs by 2040, with government and industry working together to promote adoption. PSCs are less than one micrometer thick, even when including the organic-inorganic halide perovskite light-absorbing layer, electron transport layer, and hole transport layer—less than 1/100 the thickness of crystalline silicon solar cells. Substrates such as polymer films or thin glass can be used, enabling dramatic weight reduction. As a result, PSCs can be installed on-site in locations where conventional crystalline silicon solar cells are difficult to deploy, making them 'solar cells anywhere.' If the latent demand for on-site power generation using lightweight and high-performance next-generation solar cells like PSCs can be unlocked, it could significantly increase Japan's renewable energy capacity. However, the PSCs currently being commercialized are first-generation models with approximately 15% conversion efficiency (PCE) and about 10 years of durability. Future needs include second-generation PSCs with over 20% PCE and more than 20 years of durability, and third-generation PSCs exceeding 30% PCE. This presentation will introduce research related to these second- and third-generation PSCs.
