We are participating in April Dream, an initiative to share dreams on April 1st.

This press release is a dream from andfujiizaki Architects.

andfujiizaki Architects (Representative: Chiaki Fujii / Megumi Izaki, Chuo-ku, Tokyo) is announcing its dream for April Dream: to spread "fufurere Child-Rearing Support Rental Housing" throughout society, which gently supports parents with infants and toddlers. Based on personal child-rearing experience and research, certified architects have planned and designed living environments that incorporate considerations for safety, reduced childcare burden, and prevention of "isolated child-rearing" (loneliness in child-rearing). We have launched a new rental housing design business aimed at improving the well-being of parents and children. We are also recruiting rental housing owners. Why is Housing Specialized for Infants and Toddlers Necessary?

While child-rearing may feel short in retrospect, the days with infants and toddlers are incredibly dense and place a significant mental and physical burden on parents. Repetitive tasks like holding, feeding, and soothing to sleep, combined with concerns about noise, safety, going out, and visitors, accumulate many burdens and anxieties in daily life.

However, many existing homes are not designed with the needs of infant and toddler child-rearing in mind, which often leads to parents feeling overwhelmed and isolated. Child-rearing is challenging, but it is also an incredibly rewarding and irreplaceable time.

Therefore, we want to make this time more enjoyable and manageable.

We arrived at this project with the idea that housing design could support child-rearing in response to this situation.

● "Three Perspectives" and a "100-Item Checklist" Based on Experience and Research

This project's design is based on three perspectives: safety and security, reduced childcare burden, and preventing isolation in child-rearing ("isolated child-rearing"). We have independently created a 100-item checklist based on personal experience and research, aiming for homes that are equipped from the start with thoughtful considerations that make parents feel, "I'm glad this is here," or "How considerate."

● "Period-Specific" and the Choice of "Rental Housing"

The idea is to choose housing with the necessary functions for the required period, rather than assuming long-term residency.

From this perspective, housing that supports child-rearing during the infant and toddler stages naturally aligns with the rental format. Furthermore, we aim to achieve both practicality and widespread adoption as rental housing by relying not on special equipment or high-cost specifications, but on subtle design innovations in floor plans, traffic lines, and acoustic environments.

Depending on the site and conditions, we propose the optimal method from three business schemes: "Wooden Row House Type," "RC Apartment Type," and "Renovation."

● "Mutual Consideration" and an Environment that Prevents "Isolated Child-Rearing"

By specializing in the limited period of infancy and toddlerhood, creating an environment where households in the same child-rearing phase naturally gather also has significance. The fact that lifestyles are similar fosters a sense of psychological ease through "mutual consideration." Casual chats can arise, and in an environment where people can say, "We have the same problem," small interactions become a support system, preventing isolated child-rearing.

"fufurere" will also consider the usability of shared community spaces, planning areas where natural relationships can form without imposing excessive burdens.

Our Vision of "Parental Well-being"

Not having to constantly worry about safety. Not having to be constantly considerate of others. Not having to go back and forth. Not having to search for things. Feeling not isolated.

Such conditions create余裕 (yoyu - leeway/calmness) for parents, leading to stable parent-child relationships. "fufurere" housing aims to be a presence that supports this leeway.

We Will Hold a "Dad and Mom Roundtable" to Reflect Real Voices of Child-Rearing Households!

We believe that the "nameless struggles of daily childcare" that are not visible in blueprints are crucial for future housing development. We want to hear about these real experiences.

Let's casually talk about child-rearing over snacks. Certified architects will also participate to discuss housing concerns together.

Child-Rearing Support Rental Housing Pre-Roundtable

Prior to the roundtable in May, we held a "Child-Rearing Support Rental Pre-Roundtable" in March 2026.

Four current child-rearing households participated, and we exchanged opinions on the housing challenges they face in their daily lives.
Topics discussed:

(1) The most frustrating home-related incident recently
(2) How are you handling bedrooms?
(3) What are the subtle but difficult aspects of your current home?
(4) If you could change just one thing in your home

A frank discussion took place, and the following issues were commonly raised:

<Real Challenges>

■ Psychological burden due to concern about noise

"Every time my child runs, I worry about disturbing the downstairs neighbors."

■ Difficulty balancing child-rearing and household chores

"The kitchen is small, and it's hard to devise ways to keep the children out."

■ Children's sleep environment

"My child wakes up with the morning sun, so I've put black plastic boards on the windows to cope."

We will carefully reflect these real challenges faced by parents in our checklist and incorporate them into our designs.

The Future "fufurere" Aims to Create

Through this project, we will broadly propose ways of living that consider child-rearing during infancy and toddlerhood, and we will develop concrete forms through collaboration with developers, real estate businesses, and local communities. Furthermore, by accumulating feedback from actual residents and operational knowledge, and continuously improving our designs and services, we aim to make this a realistic option for more families.

Especially during the challenging period of child-rearing, housing can become a support system.

"Child-Rearing Support Rental Housing fufurere" aims for a future where this becomes the norm in society.

Designer's Comment

Chiaki Fujii / Megumi Izaki, andfujiizaki Architects

During child-rearing, I recall my child's innocent gestures and experience moments where I can relax and smile, thinking "fufu." I realize that having more such moments provides parents with leeway and supports precious time with their children.

The period from a child's birth until they turn six is approximately 2,200 days.

The name "fufurere" embodies our desire for this housing to gently support "the first 2,200 days of parent-child life."

Increasing the "fufu" (laughter) moments.

Housing providing a little bit of support.

Through the accumulation of these, the challenging times become a little easier.

We aim to achieve such daily lives through housing design.

FAQ

What kind of housing is "fufurere Child-Rearing Support Rental Housing"?

It is rental housing designed for parents with infants and toddlers, based on a certified architect's own child-rearing experience and research, with considerations for safety, reduced childcare burden, and prevention of isolated child-rearing. It aims to improve the well-being of parents and children.

What does "isolated child-rearing" mean?

It refers to isolation in child-rearing, a situation where parents tend to bear the worries and burdens of raising children alone. This housing aims to prevent such isolation by fostering community and a sense of 'mutual consideration'.

What kind of design considerations are included?

Based on three perspectives – 'safety and security,' 'reduced childcare burden,' and 'prevention of isolated child-rearing' – a 100-item checklist has been created. This includes considerations for noise, efficient household workflows, and children's sleep environments. These are achieved through design ingenuity in layouts and traffic lines, rather than relying on specific equipment.

What are the business schemes available?

Depending on the site and conditions, we propose the optimal method from three schemes: 'Wooden Row House Type,' 'RC Apartment Type,' and 'Renovation'.

What is the origin of the name "fufurere"?

The name comes from the desire to cherish those moments during child-rearing when recalling a child's innocent gestures brings a smile and a sense of relief, like a soft chuckle ('fufu'). It embodies the wish for the housing to gently support the first approximately 2,200 days (from birth to age six) of parent-child life.
