Gengo Matsunaga was once known as 'Hikuitori,' the foremost firefighter samurai in Edo.
He had quit firefighting for certain reasons, but suddenly receives an invitation to serve from the Shinjo Domain.
The Shinjo Domain's firefighting squad had no money, no talent, and was looked down upon by those around them.
With the backing of his wife, Miyuki, Gengo decides to rebuild the collapsed firefighting squad as its leader.
