amu Inc. (Headquarters: Kesennuma City, Miyagi Prefecture, CEO: Kodai Kato, hereinafter referred to as "amu"), which develops new products by upcycling discarded fishing gear, and Fish Hook Inc. (Headquarters: Saitama City, Saitama Prefecture, CEO: Ryoshi Takeda, hereinafter referred to as "Fish Hook") will be selling carabiners made from used fishing lines collected at last year's POP UP event during the "Fish Hook Spring Collection '26" POP UP event held at Shinjuku Takashimaya from Friday, April 3rd to Monday, April 6th, 2026. These carabiners feature unique one-of-a-kind marble patterns, with a new limited edition color also appearing this time.

At the venue, we will also be selling fishing line collection services and products such as tote bags, T-shirts, and sunglasses made from amuca®, which uses nylon derived from fishing nets.

This initiative is part of a demonstration experiment for upcycling discarded fishing lines, which has been underway since April 2025. We aim to broaden our target audience beyond anglers to include those who do not fish, providing them with an opportunity to protect the ocean through a circular action they can participate in on the spot, rather than just learning about the marine debris problem.

amu will continue to aim for the resource recovery of local discarded fishing gear by developing and selling products that upcycle various waste materials.

Circular Action "While Shopping." From the Fishing Line Upcycling Project Started in 2025 to Product Sales.

While opportunities to hear about the marine debris problem in the news are increasing, there are few "entry points" for individuals to participate in daily life. This POP UP event, held in a department store along the consumer's path, offers a "fishing line collection project" as a "circular action" that both anglers and non-anglers can easily engage with, along with the sale of products upcycled from the collected fishing lines. In addition to fishing lines, we will also sell tote bags, T-shirts, and sunglasses made from amuca®, nylon derived from fishing nets collected from fishermen in Kesennuma City, Miyagi Prefecture.

By connecting collected fishing lines as resources to the next product, we visualize a cycle that doesn't end with "just collecting" and provide visitors with an experience where their small actions contribute to the future of the ocean.

Used Fishing Lines Collected at the Previous POP UP Event Upcycled into "One-of-a-Kind" Limited Edition Carabiners

The limited edition carabiners being sold this time are upcycled from used fishing lines collected at the previous POP UP event (held in November 2025). By turning collected fishing lines into products, we have given form to a cycle that goes beyond "collection and completion.".

The collected fishing lines were mixed with marine debris washed ashore in Tsushima City, Nagasaki Prefecture, and were handmade by BLOOP LLC (Headquarters: Fujisawa City, Kanagawa Prefecture, Representative: Shun Watanabe, hereinafter referred to as "BLOOP"). The marble pattern, which utilizes the material's characteristics, has a different expression for each piece, making it a "unique item" that cannot be found elsewhere.

By reusing unusable fishing lines as material, we aim to simultaneously reduce environmental impact and create new value. Furthermore, by clearly communicating the story from "fishing line collection" to "product creation" at the store, we aim to transform environmental issues from distant problems into triggers for action.
