Amateras Space Inc. (Headquarters: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director and CEO: Taisei Hasumi; hereinafter "Amateras Space") announces that it has been selected for a support project of the space co-creation program "MUGENLABO UNIVERSE" promoted by KDDI Corporation.

In this project, we will collaborate with the Space Medical Accelerator (hereinafter "SMA") to develop a "space healthcare fundamental technology" that visualizes human health conditions and physical load in the extreme environments of space and Earth, contributing to the improvement of safety and work performance. Specifically, we will integrate biometric sensing functions such as an IMU (motion sensor), heart rate, SpO2, and skin temperature into the inner suit of a spacesuit. Through demonstrations in simulated space and microgravity environments, we aim to advance safety evaluation and health management technologies for space travel and future space habitation. At the same time, we will promote the social implementation of space technology, with a view to its application in high-load environments on Earth such as firefighting, construction, medical care, disaster response, and heavy industry.

Amateras Space is advancing the research and development of spacesuits and related technologies under the mission of "Expanding the realm of human activity." For manned space activities, which will be in full swing in the future, we aim to contribute to the improvement of safety and sustainability with technology originating from Japan, positioning this project as a crucial step towards that goal.

Project Overview

This project aims to construct a fundamental technology that quantitatively comprehends human conditions in the extreme environments of space and Earth, leading to improvements in safety, reliability, and work efficiency. The main development contents are as follows:

  •  Motion measurement by IMU

  • Biometric sensing such as heart rate, SpO2, and skin temperature

  • Real-time evaluation through integrated analysis of multiple data

Furthermore, we will verify its effectiveness as a health management technology through demonstrations in a microgravity environment utilizing parabolic flights. The acquired data is expected to be utilized not only for health monitoring but also for grasping physical load and work risks, early detection of abnormal signs, and sophistication of operational judgments. In the future, we aim to develop it as a foundation for safety evaluation and safety management in manned space activities.

Future Expansion

In this project, we plan to proceed with requirement definition, experimental design, and prototype conception and development in 2026, and to conduct demonstration experiments and acquire biometric and motion data in a parabolic flight environment within this fiscal year. After that, in addition to evaluation and analysis by SMA, we will consider clinical and demonstration collaboration with universities, private companies, and medical institutions, aiming to integrate the results and present a model for utilizing space health data by March 2027. The space healthcare fundamental technology addressed in this project is a dual-use technology that not only contributes to the sophistication of safety evaluation and safety management of manned space activities but also looks ahead to utilization in extreme environments on Earth. Sensing, analysis, and operation technologies refined in the harshest environment of space are expected to be deployed to sites where high safety and reliability are required, such as firefighting, construction, disaster response, medical care, heavy industry, and infrastructure maintenance. Through this, we will realize the visualization of workers' physical load, the early grasping of abnormal signs, and the sophistication of on-site judgments, contributing to the improvement of safety and productivity in a wide range of industrial fields. Amateras Space will create new value in both space and Earth by developing spacesuits not just as protective clothing, but as a foundation responsible for life support, visualization of physical information, and further, safety management.

About "MUGENLABO UNIVERSE"

"MUGENLABO UNIVERSE" is a program that aims for the co-creation of space businesses by startups and large enterprises, and the resolution of challenges on Earth utilizing space technology. It provides a variety of demonstration environments, opportunities for matching between companies, and knowledge sharing by experts in the space domain, thereby developing an environment where companies can easily take on the challenge of creating businesses utilizing space. Utilizing the Tokyo Metropolitan Government's agreement project "TIB CATAPULT," it will further strengthen support for the business growth and corporate value improvement of startups.

About "TIB CATAPULT"

In order to spark innovation in areas of industry and technology where Tokyo has strengths, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government will conclude agreements with "clusters" consisting of multiple companies formed for this purpose, and promote cooperation and collaboration with startups in the cluster domains, aiming to create innovation. Each selected cluster aims to create a track record of more than 20 collaborations between large enterprises and startups over three years, toward the creation of globally growing startups.

About Amateras Space Inc.

Amateras Space is a space startup advancing the research and development of spacesuits, related human augmentation technologies, and life support technologies under the mission of "Expanding the realm of human activity." Through the social implementation of technologies that enhance human safety, comfort, and sustainability in space, we will create new value in both space and on Earth.

About Recruitment

Amateras Space is currently strengthening its recruitment of engineers who will play a core role in manned space development.

In particular, we are actively seeking technical lead personnel who can design and integrate manned space development, including ECLSS (Environmental Control and Life Support Systems), from a holistic integration perspective rather than just single elements, as well as technical members who will be responsible for practical tasks such as machinery/fluids, control/simulation, and materials/chemical processes. What we are looking for is not just excellent engineers. It is someone who can structure the manned space domain, push forward from requirement definition to safety design and verification planning on their own, and view this challenge not merely as a "job" but as a theme to stake their own life on. We look forward to applications from those who wish to seriously face this as a stakeholder in the era when humans live, work, and build society in space.
