Kawakami Village’s LINE Open Chat “Lettuspe Village” Surpasses 100 Participants

Lettuspe Village, a LINE Open Chat operated by Tsucchy, who was appointed DAO manager for Kawakami Village in Nagano Prefecture through the Regional Revitalization Cooperation Volunteers DAO run by Alyawmu Inc. (Headquarters: Sapporo, Hokkaido; Representative Director: Hiroaki Hatanaka), surpassed 100 participants on April 16, 2026. The community aims to become a hub for creating a related population by enabling villagers and young people from urban areas to interact and build casual relationships. Lettuspe Village was launched on January 16, 2026, and reached 100 participants in just three months. Its name combines three elements: lettuce, a local specialty of the village; space, symbolizing the village as the hometown of astronaut Kimiya Yui and its beautiful starry skies; and village. The community uses LINE Open Chat, a platform that is easy for people of all ages to join, and functions as a place where local residents and young people from cities can connect beyond regional boundaries. The growth to 100 participants was supported by steady outreach efforts. Posts on Threads drew attention and brought in interested people from Tokyo, while within the village, the team continued hands-on activities such as distributing flyers and directly visiting local residents to explain the initiative. A self-introduction video aired on a local cable TV channel with 40 years of history also helped many villagers become aware of the activity, expanding a warm circle of support. Lettuspe Village aims to create a form of related population in which young people from cities can casually visit Kawakami Village and help residents, much like going to help someone in the neighborhood. Rather than limiting itself to online information sharing, the initiative seeks to become a model case for creating new related populations through active real-world exchanges between villagers and urban youth.
