Ranking of Moments When People Felt Relieved to Have Let Go of Vacant Houses: A Survey of 125 People

AlbaLink, based in Koto-ku, Tokyo, and led by Representative Director Kenji Kawada, conducted a survey among 125 people who have previously let go of vacant houses, such as inherited family homes, to rank the moments they felt relieved.

Period: June 3rd to 9th, 2026.
Method: Voluntary internet survey.
Valid responses: 125 (65 female, 60 male).
Age groups: 20s (16.0%), 30s (26.4%), 40s (28.0%), 50s (17.6%), 60s and over (12.0%).

The most significant moment of relief identified was the 'tax payment season' (46.4%). This was followed by 'during bad weather' (28.0%) and 'not having to visit the old home' (25.6%).

Many respondents expressed that no longer receiving fixed asset tax notices brought both financial and psychological relief. Furthermore, owners felt significant benefits after selling, as they no longer need to worry about property damage or potential harm to neighbors caused by vacant houses during bad weather.
