What is a zone plate and how is it used in photography?
A zone plate is an optical element that uses diffraction rather than refraction to focus light. In photography, it replaces a traditional lens, creating images with unique characteristics like soft focus, halos, and a distinct atmospheric quality, moving away from sharp, high-resolution imagery.
What is the "ZNONZ" device?
ZNONZ is a compact, lightweight, and affordable camera optical device that utilizes a zone plate for photography. It's designed to capture images with an emphasis on atmosphere and impression rather than technical sharpness.
What is the theme of the "ZNONZ Photo Exhibition ~The Choice Not to Be Overly Captured~"?
The exhibition's theme explores an alternative approach to photography, deliberately choosing not to focus on high resolution and sharpness. Instead, it embraces elements like light diffusion, softness, and atmospheric "air" to create images that evoke feelings and impressions, akin to Impressionist paintings.
Who is organizing this exhibition?
The exhibition is organized by "ZP de Utsu Kai" (ZP Shooting Group), a community of professional and amateur photographers dedicated to exploring zone plate photography. The venue is Aidem Photo Gallery [Sirius].
When and where is the exhibition held?
The exhibition is held at Aidem Photo Gallery [Sirius] from April 2nd (Thursday) to April 15th (Wednesday), 2026.
