[Business Etiquette: What People Pay Attention to Themselves and What They Expect from Others] What they pay attention to themselves: "Greetings" 61.6%, "Punctuality" 56.0%, "Speaking and Listening Skills" 38.4% What they expect from others: "Greetings" 50.1%, "Speaking and Listening Skills" 40.2%, "Punctuality" 32.8%
Respondents who applied for jobs were asked about "what they pay attention to themselves" and "what they expect from others" regarding business etiquette (up to 3 selections).
The most common answer for "what they pay attention to themselves" was "Greetings" at 61.6%, followed by "Punctuality" at 56.0%, and "Speaking and Listening Skills" at 38.4%. For "what they expect from others," the most common was "Greetings" at 50.1%, followed by "Speaking and Listening Skills" at 40.2%, and "Punctuality" at 32.8%. The top three items were the same, though their rankings differed.
"Punctuality" (23.2pt difference) and "Appearance (dress code, hair color, etc.)" (13.2pt difference) were higher in "what they pay attention to themselves" than in "what they expect from others." This suggests an impression that external appearances are being judged less strictly. On the other hand, "hierarchy based on position and status" (12.6pt difference) and "respect for elders, consideration for juniors" (6.2pt difference) were higher in "what they expect from others" than in "what they pay attention to themselves." This may indicate a desire for appropriate responses based on one's position.

"Part-time/arbeit" job seekers had a 4.4pt higher percentage for "When I felt it was necessary while performing my job" compared to "full-time" job seekers. As over half of the applicants chose this, it might be beneficial to provide opportunities for reflection and learning after they actually start working.
