His specialties include international politics, security studies, and Japan's foreign and defense policies. He has served as a participant in the Ministry of Defense and an advisor to the National Security Secretariat, deeply involved in government security policy. He is a leading figure in Asia-Pacific security research, both domestically and internationally, and author of many books including 'After the Ukraine Crisis: The International Community's Choice and Japan.'
