AI Governance Association and GARP Sign Partnership to Promote Responsible AI Governance in Japan

The General Incorporated Association AI Governance Association (Headquarters: Chuo-ku, Tokyo; Representative Directors: Yukito Oshiba, Masashi Ikimatame, Hiroki Habuka; hereinafter referred to as "AIGA") and the Global Association of Risk Professionals (Headquarters: Jersey City, New Jersey, USA; President and CEO: Richard Apostolik; hereinafter referred to as "GARP") have entered into a partnership (hereinafter referred to as "the Partnership") to address the increasing importance of responsible AI governance in response to the rapid development and societal implementation of AI. Through this Partnership, the two organizations will collaborate by holding joint events and expanding the domestic provision of GARP's "Risk and AI (RAI)™ Certification," including its Japanese version. Background With the rapid development and societal implementation of AI, the importance of governance for appropriately managing the risks arising from AI use and utilizing AI responsibly is growing. However, the number of professionals who can systematically understand the mechanisms of conventional AI and generative AI models, the potential risks arising from their use, and their impact on society as a whole, and apply this knowledge within organizations, remains limited. This Partnership aims to enhance knowledge regarding these mechanisms and risks, as well as practical, widely accepted industry frameworks that professionals can apply to use AI responsibly and ethically within organizations. AIGA and GARP will work to promote responsible AI governance in Japan through joint events and by expanding access to GARP's Risk and AI (RAI)™ Certification within the region. The two organizations have had prior interactions. At a GARP Japan Chapter meeting hosted in Tokyo by Mr. Satoshi Yamamoto (FRM), Representative Director of the GARP Japan Chapter and Advisor to SMBC Nikko Securities, Mr. Hiroaki Sakuma, Executive Officer of AIGA, gave a presentation on the importance of systematizing AI risk governance. This Partnership will further develop such collaborations. Comments from Both Organizations Through initiatives such as GARP's new RAI Certification (in Japanese), we can promote systematic education on AI risks, enabling professionals and organizations to gain a deeper understanding of the sources of AI-related risks and implement practical governance principles. We are very pleased to be able to advance AIGA's mission in collaboration with GARP. Through our collaboration with AIGA and expanded access to the RAI Certification, we aim to support Japanese professionals in acquiring the knowledge and skills necessary to identify and manage the risks of AI models, enabling organizations to leverage AI responsibly and generate reliable and robust outcomes now and in the future.
