Aeon has been promoting food drives since 2017 to reduce household food waste. In the 2025 fiscal year (March 1, 2025 – February 28, 2026), the initiative expanded beyond traditional GMS and supermarket operations to include regular and permanent food drives in health & wellness and discount businesses, implemented across 17 group companies and approximately 2,100 stores. The approximately 246 tons of unused food collected was donated to children's cafeterias and similar facilities through local food bank organizations.

Advancing Food Drives Toward a Circular Society

Aeon identifies the long-term value its business activities provide to society, defining its strategic focus through six sustainability themes※1 in response to evolving social and environmental conditions. One of these themes is "Realizing a Circular Society," under which Aeon aims to reduce food waste generated in stores while also promoting food drives that allow households to donate surplus food to local food banks and similar organizations.

Introduction of a New Consolidated Collection System Through Group Collaboration

While continuing direct collection at individual stores, Aeon introduced a new system in 2025 where stores, its own logistics network (Aeon Global SCM), and partner logistics companies collaborate to consolidate collected food at logistics centers. This initiative enables local food banks and similar organizations to receive food from multiple stores in a single consolidated pickup at logistics centers, reducing their collection burden and allowing for more efficient receipt of larger quantities of food.

Aeon will continue to promote regular and permanent food drives, further expanding the program in fiscal 2026 by introducing it to stores not yet participating. Aeon will strive to reduce food waste by collaborating with customers and serving as a "hub" connecting local community activists through its store network.
