Overview AEON is participating as a partner company in a demonstration project led by the Japan Fisheries Research and Education Agency (FRA) aimed at the societal implementation of full-cycle eel aquaculture technology. Starting May 29, 2026, the product will be available in limited quantities on the "Green Beans" and "AEON Shop" platforms.

Background and Objectives Eel aquaculture has traditionally relied on wild-caught eel fry. Vulnerable to resource fluctuations and environmental changes, establishing a stable supply has long been a challenge. Since the 1990s, the FRA has led R&D in full-cycle aquaculture, achieving a closed-cycle breeding process in 2010. Production is handled by Yamada Fisheries Co., Ltd., which applies its expertise to bridge research results into practical supply. This trial aims to gather consumer feedback to accelerate societal implementation.

AEON's Commitment AEON has prioritized sustainable procurement, being the first Japanese retailer to handle MSC-certified products and the first in Asia to offer ASC-certified items. Its commitment to sustainability aligns with the goals of this demonstration.
