Shinagawa City and AEON Pet Co., Ltd. Conclude Agreement on Support for Pet Rearing During Disasters

AEON Pet Co., Ltd. (President and Representative Director: Ichiro Yonezu, hereinafter "AEON Pet") and Shinagawa City, Tokyo (Mayor: Kyoko Morizawa) will conclude an "Agreement on Support for Pet Rearing During Disasters" on Tuesday, May 12, 2026. The purpose of this agreement is to establish a support system for pet care management during disasters through public-private cooperation, thereby ensuring the "safety and security" of local residents and improving disaster response capabilities. In recent years, there has been an increasing demand from pet owners who hesitate to evacuate due to having pets, and requests for enhanced acceptance systems in evacuation shelters during disasters. In response to these voices, Shinagawa City is proceeding with the development of an acceptance system for pet co-evacuation at all evacuation shelters by fiscal year Reiwa 6 (2024). AEON Pet, utilizing its network as one of Japan's largest comprehensive pet specialty store companies, is actively engaged in social activities aimed at solving social issues surrounding pets and promoting animal welfare. As part of these efforts, the company has signed agreements related to cooperation in transferring dogs and cats, and disaster support agreements with 6 prefectures and 6 municipalities nationwide, expanding its initiatives through close collaboration. With the conclusion of this agreement with Shinagawa City, this marks the 13th municipality nationwide with which AEON Pet has signed an agreement related to animal welfare or disaster support. Through this agreement with Shinagawa City, AEON Pet will engage in comprehensive support activities at evacuation shelters during disasters, including arranging pet food and hygiene products necessary for pet care, and dispatching AEON Pet employees, including veterinarians.
