Birth of 'Gifu City Nobunaga-ko no Omotenashi WAON'!

Aeon Retail Co., Ltd. will start issuing a local WAON card, 'Gifu City Nobunaga-ko no Omotenashi WAON,' to contribute to Gifu City's tourism and cultural promotion projects.

Aeon Co., Ltd. and Gifu City, Gifu Prefecture, signed a 'Comprehensive Partnership Agreement' in December 2025 to revitalize the region and improve citizen services. They have been advancing various initiatives such as 'promoting sales of local products and local consumption,' 'health promotion,' and 'regional safety and security.'

The issuance of this local WAON is part of the initiatives under this agreement. When customers use 'Gifu City Nobunaga-ko no Omotenashi WAON' at over 1.62 million WAON participating stores nationwide, including Aeon Group stores, Aeon will donate a portion of the payment amount to Gifu City. The funds will be used for the city's tourism and cultural promotion projects.

The front of the card features Gifu Castle perched atop Mt. Kinka, photographed during a full moon. The back introduces the city's representative tourism and culture, including the view from Gifu Castle, 'Cormorant Fishing on the Nagara River (Gifu Nagara-gawa no Ukai),' and the 'Gifu Great Buddha' at Shoho-ji Temple, which is counted among Japan's three major Great Buddha statues.

Gifu City and Aeon will continue to maintain close cooperation in a wide range of fields, striving to create a prosperous local society and new services for citizens, while continuing to promote the city's tourism and culture.

- Issuance: From Saturday, April 25, 2026. Card version sales begin Sunday, April 26, 2026, primarily at 'Aeon' and 'Aeon Style' stores in Gifu Prefecture, then gradually expanding to other group companies. - Issuance Fee: Free for WAON App issuance. 300 yen (including tax) for card sales. - Point Benefits: 1 point for every 200 yen (including tax) spent. Points can be exchanged for WAON (e-money) at 1 point = 1 yen. Additionally, payments with registered 'WAON' e-money at participating Aeon Group stores earn 2 points per 200 yen. - Donation: Aeon will donate a portion of the 'Gifu City Nobunaga-ko no Omotenashi WAON' usage amount to Gifu City to support projects for tourism and cultural promotion.
