MaxValu Hokuriku Co., Ltd. held the "Marine Debris Clean-up Volunteer" event, part of the Aeon Heartful Volunteer in Noto initiative, on Friday, April 24th, in the Kuromijima district of Monzen-machi, Wajima City, Ishikawa Prefecture. A total of approximately 300 participants, including employees from various Aeon Group companies, related businesses, and volunteer organizations, joined the effort.

The Kuromijima district, where the event took place, saw its coastline uplift by approximately 80 kilometers due to the Noto Peninsula Earthquake on New Year's Day 2024, with the seabed rising by a maximum of 5.5 meters. As a result, new sandy beaches were formed, and a massive amount of marine debris washed ashore.

This activity marks the second time it has been held, following last year's event. This year, the scale and number of participants were expanded from last year, with the aim of creating a new leisure field on the Kuromijima coast and making the sea clean and beautiful in preparation for its opening. The weather was favorable on the day of the event, and participants managed to collect approximately 1,175 kilograms of waste, significantly exceeding last year's collection of 371.4 kilograms.

Furthermore, after the clean-up activities, the residents of the Kuromijima district took the lead in organizing an exchange meeting and product sales involving volunteers and local businesses.

MaxValu Hokuriku Co., Ltd. will continue to support the affected communities so that residents can return to their normal lives as soon as possible.

A total of approximately 300 people, including employees from various Aeon Group companies, related businesses, and volunteer organizations, participated.

Participants from MaxValu Hokuriku Co., Ltd. were present.

A large amount of plastic bottles and drifted debris was found.

Mr. Sugino, representative of the General Incorporated Association "Minato," spoke about the past, dreams, and future of the Kuromijima coast.

Local businesses' product sales were very popular.
