Aeon is pleased to announce the launch of the 'Aeon Satoyama Project,' which will integrally promote the restoration of Satoyama (community forests) and the creation of regional value. As a model area, we launched the 'Tako Town Aeon Satoyama Project' in Tako Town, Chiba Prefecture, and on April 2, a regional partnership agreement was signed by four parties: Tako Town, Aeon Co., Ltd., the Aeon 1% Club Foundation, and the Aeon Environmental Foundation.
As climate change and the loss of biodiversity become more serious, the conservation of the natural environment has become a common global challenge. On the other hand, while Japan's Satoyama has played an important role as a place where local life and nature coexist, it has become difficult to maintain due to a lack of successors and other factors. Environmental issues and regional issues cannot be separated; they must be addressed integrally within the community.
As a company operating its business together with local communities based on its stores, Aeon has a mission to be continuously involved in solving regional issues. Aiming to build a relationship where local nature and people's activities support each other and develop sustainably, this project promotes the construction of a sustainable regional model by not only 'protecting' nature but also 'utilizing' it, leading to the regeneration of local livelihoods and communities.
Ideal Vision of Satoyama Aimed for by the 'Aeon Satoyama Project'
- 'Creating' Nature: Forest maintenance (tree planting/thinning), ecosystem recovery, flora and fauna surveys
- 'Using' Blessings: Production and commercialization of agricultural products, promotion of local production for local consumption

Furthermore, for 35 years, Aeon has continued tree-planting activities with local residents through the 'Aeon Hometown Forest Building' program. In this project, based on the knowledge cultivated through these initiatives, we aim to reconstruct the relationship between nature and people within the region, redefine Satoyama from something to 'protect' to 'a resource that leads to the creation of regional value,' and build a mechanism where nature, economy, and community circulate.
Overview of the Tako Town Aeon Satoyama Project
Tako Town is blessed with a Satoyama environment and retains many regional resources including rich nature, while an increase in exchange population is expected due to the opening of the Ken-O Expressway and the enhancement of Narita International Airport functions. In addition, Aeon Group stores (Kasumi) have opened in the area, and we already have touchpoints with the community through mobile sales and disaster prevention agreements. In this project, leveraging this foundation, we will proceed with building a model that connects Satoyama and the living sphere. Through practical implementation in Tako Town, this initiative will be developed as a standard model that can be expanded nationwide.
