**1. Background of Joint Research Commencement**

With the advancement of digitalization and the rapid spread and sophistication of AI, the "data" that serves as its information source demands high-speed processing of large volumes of data and high-quality data management.

Against this backdrop of challenges, Professor Nakamura's research on the "Information-Value-Driven Data Foundation" at Tohoku University Cyber Science Center's Data Platform Research Department, which assigns appropriate resources and processing methods according to the information value of data, will be combined with Adsol Nissin's practical business knowledge gained from system development in social infrastructure projects (urban planning, disaster prevention/resilience, etc.), as well as its expertise in generative AI application and data management. This fusion will lead to research on the "Data Platform for the New Era of AI."

**2. Overview of Joint Research**

**(1) Theme**
"Data Platform for the New Era of AI"

**(2) Research Content**
This research will proceed in the following two steps, aiming for innovative improvements in the quality and processing efficiency of the vast amounts of data handled by AI.

Towards the Realization of an AI-Era Data Platform

■ **STEP 1: "Information-Value-Driven Search Foundation"**
Optimization of digital resources for the information search foundation (LLM-RAG) supporting generative AI
(Research on a foundation that improves search accuracy while suppressing database capacity)

* Compression and optimization of vector indexes using quantization technology
* Appropriate size segmentation and compacting using mixed precision
* Improving search accuracy through flattening of structured data (data cleansing)

■ **STEP 2: "Data Quality Management"**
Solving data cleansing challenges in companies through application of research results
(Research on ensuring the reliability and performance of data and platforms to promote AI utilization)

* Expanding the scope of questions that generative AI can handle by improving data timeliness
* Achieving more accurate answers (preventing hallucinations) by improving data validity
* Realizing improved generative AI response accuracy through data completeness and consistency

**(3) Expected Research Outcomes and Social Contributions**

* Development of a digital foundation for processing large volumes of data by leveraging generative AI
* Support for solving sustainable social issues such as carbon neutrality and digital inclusion
* Social implementation of research results and strengthening of competitiveness through industry-academia collaboration, etc.

**(4) Joint Research Start Date**

April 1, 2026

**3. Comments from Each Party**

■ **Takao Suganuma, Director, Tohoku University Cyber Science Center**
Tohoku University was certified and approved as Japan's first "Designated National University" in December 2024. While pursuing world-class research and aiming to return results to society and the economy, the Tohoku University Cyber Science Center is engaged in cutting-edge R&D of computing and data infrastructure, which forms the "brain" of AI.
This joint research is a highly significant initiative that brings together the knowledge of industry and academia to realize an advanced data platform indispensable in the era of generative AI social implementation. We anticipate that through co-creation with Adsol Nissin, outcomes that lead to new values for future society will be created.

■ **Takaki Nakamura, Professor, Data Platform Research Department, Tohoku University Cyber Science Center**
In large-scale data processing with generative AI utilization as a premise, the existence of a data foundation that provides high-speed, high-accuracy, valuable data to the computing infrastructure for learning or inference is extremely important. In this joint research, by leveraging Adsol Nissin's practical knowledge accumulated from data management and generative AI applications in social infrastructure system development sites, we expect that the "Information-Value-Driven Data Foundation" our department has been working on will evolve further towards practical application and directly contribute to solving social issues.
We aim to create tangible results together towards the realization of a data-utilizing society.

■ **Toshiaki Shinozaki, President, Adsol Nissin Corporation**
Adsol Nissin has set "Smart Infrastructure / Smart Life" as a growth business and has been working on the digitalization and smartification of towns, from urban planning to disaster prevention and resilience. In achieving the "Smart City" of the digitalized future, data is the source of social value creation itself, and how it is handled is a key to future town development.
Through this joint research, by fusing Professor Nakamura's advanced research with our company's technical and practical knowledge, we aim to realize a high-speed, robust, and flexible data foundation and create value that supports a smart and sustainable society.

**4. Organization Overview**

■ **Tohoku University Cyber Science Center / Data Platform Research Department**
The Tohoku University Cyber Science Center has its roots in the Large-Scale Computer Center established in 1969 as a national joint-use facility, and has continued to provide cutting-edge large-scale scientific computing systems and network infrastructure to researchers both inside and outside the university. To lead support for data-driven research and education, which has been rapidly pursued domestically and internationally in recent years, the Data Platform Research Department was established within the center through a reorganization in 2022. This department is engaged in the development and operation of data infrastructure supporting data-driven research and education, as well as research on next-generation data infrastructure.

【Professor Takaki Nakamura Profile】
Joined Hitachi, Ltd. in 1998. Associate Professor at Tohoku University's Graduate School of Engineering in 2012. Professor at Tohoku University Cyber Science Center in 2022. Special Assistant to the President of Tohoku University (Information Infrastructure) in 2025.
Recently, he has focused on realizing a data platform that researchers inside and outside the university can use with peace of mind, such as the development and operation of Tohoku University's research data lake "IZUMI," which enables long-term storage, management, and utilization of large-scale research data.

■ **Adsol Nissin Corporation**
Under the slogan "An Innovation Company Leading the 'Tomorrow' of the Digital Society," Adsol Nissin, as an independent IT company, develops social infrastructure businesses that protect people's lives, such as energy (electricity, gas) and transportation, and advanced industry businesses that support Japan's sophisticated services and manufacturing, such as payments and smart factories. In areas such as "town development" and "resilience," we propose IT solutions that are "safe and secure" and environmentally conscious to our customers by utilizing cutting-edge technologies such as "AI" and "data management."
