Changes in English Education
It has been over three years since English became a required subject in elementary schools, and English education for elementary school students has become established nationwide.
With significant changes to the English curriculum guidelines for elementary and junior high schools starting in fiscal year 2020 and fiscal year 2021, respectively, fifth and sixth graders now have two English classes per week, totaling 70 hours. English has become a graded subject to develop the four skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing in a balanced way.
As it is now a graded subject, the curriculum has been expanded to cover four skills and five domains, with continuity to junior high school level English. The goal is to "foster the foundational qualities and abilities for communication." This is almost identical to the content of the previous junior high school curriculum guidelines.
This means that the level of English learned in elementary school has significantly increased and become more challenging.
Furthermore, the grades in which "Foreign Language Activities (English)" are conducted have been moved up, starting from the third and fourth grades of elementary school.
Additionally, the number of vocabulary words to be learned in junior high school has increased from 1200 to 1600-1800 words, an increase of 400 words.
Junior high schools aim for all-English instruction.
In elementary schools, in particular, the entire learning environment for students is undergoing significant changes, with not only English but also programming classes becoming compulsory subjects.
Moreover, university entrance exams that comply with the new curriculum guidelines will begin with the 2024 academic year university entrance examinations (conducted in January 2025).
Now is the Time for ActiMethod's Typing-Based English Learning
ActiMethod's strength lies in its learning method that allows for rapid input of a large number of English words in a short time. All general English "writing" is done through typing.
Students type English words on a keyboard to build their vocabulary. As they type the words while listening to their pronunciation, they can practice correct pronunciation along with spelling.
Once students become accustomed to practicing English through typing, they can type 5 to 10 times faster than writing by hand.

A Message from the School Principal
I am Takayuki Musashi, the principal of ActiMethod Yotsuya School.
English is an important skill that broadens future options. At our school, we provide an environment where children can acquire English skills while having fun through typing English® and reading aloud. We aim to build confidence by accumulating successful experiences of "understanding" and "being able to use" English. Please come and experience the atmosphere of our school.
[6th Grade Student] I can understand the English in movies now!
It's really fun to learn so many English words one after another. I can now naturally translate Japanese into English, and when I go to see a movie, I can understand most of what the characters are saying in English.
[Preschooler, 3rd Grade, 6th Grade - Parent] My children's English skills have improved enough to win awards in national competitions!
A friend introduced us to a place where they teach both English and typing, so we went for a trial lesson. My child was really hooked and said, "I definitely want to learn here." They had never touched a computer before, but more than that, the teacher's lessons were so fun that I think they came to like English. My two children are currently attending, and my older son won 2nd place and my younger daughter won 3rd place in a national vocabulary competition. Their English skills have improved incredibly.
