Children’s English schools under the Actimethod brand have been opening across Japan, and as of December 2025, the number of operating schools has surpassed 100. More openings are planned nationwide. The English curriculum guidelines changed significantly for elementary schools from fiscal 2020 and for junior high schools from fiscal 2021. Currently, fifth and sixth graders have two English classes per week, totaling 70 hours. English has become a graded subject designed to improve the four skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing in a balanced way. Now that English is an official subject, classes cover four skills and five areas, with a curriculum connected to junior high school-level English. The goal is to “develop qualities and abilities that form the foundation for communication,” which is almost the same as the previous junior high school curriculum guidelines. In other words, the level of English learned during elementary school has risen sharply and become more difficult. Foreign language activities, mainly English, have also been moved earlier and now start in third and fourth grade. The number of English words students are expected to learn in junior high school has increased from 1,200 by 400 words, reaching 1,600 to 1,800 words. Junior high schools are also aiming to conduct classes entirely in English. In elementary schools in particular, the learning environment has changed significantly, with not only English but also programming classes becoming mandatory. University entrance examinations aligned with the new curriculum guidelines will begin from the 2024 academic year exams, held in January 2025. Now Is the Time for Actimethod’s Typing-Based English Learning Actimethod’s strength is its learning method that enables students to input large amounts of English vocabulary in a short period. All ordinary English “writing” practice is done through typing. Students type English words on a keyboard to build vocabulary. Audio is played while students type the words and memorize spelling, allowing them to practice together with correct pronunciation. Once students become accustomed to practicing English through typing, they can type 5 to 10 times faster than practicing by writing with a pencil.
