Changes in English Education
It has been over three years since English became an official subject in elementary schools, and English education for elementary school students has taken root nationwide.
The English curriculum guidelines changed significantly from fiscal 2020 for elementary schools and fiscal 2021 for junior high schools. Currently, 5th and 6th graders in elementary school have two English classes a week, totaling 70 hours, and it has become an official graded subject to foster a balanced improvement of the four skills: "listening," "speaking," "reading," and "writing."
Now that it is a subject, class contents are divided into 4 skills and 5 areas, and a curriculum with continuity to junior high school level English is designed. The goal is the "development of the fundamental qualities and abilities needed for communication." This is almost the same as the content of the conventional junior high school curriculum guidelines.
In other words, the level of English learned during elementary school has rapidly increased and become more difficult.
Also, the implementation grade for "Foreign Language Activities (English)" has been brought forward, starting from 3rd and 4th grade.
Furthermore, the number of English words to be memorized in junior high school has increased by 400 from 1,200, reaching 1,600 to 1,800 words.
Junior high schools are aiming for all-English classes.
Especially in elementary schools, the learning environment for students is undergoing major changes, with programming classes also becoming a compulsory subject alongside English.
And, starting from the 2024 university entrance exams (held in January 2025), exams compliant with the new curriculum guidelines will begin.
Now is the time for Actimethod's typing English learning
Actimethod's strength lies in a learning method that inputs a massive amount of English vocabulary in a short time. Standard English "writing" is entirely conducted through typing.
By typing English words on a keyboard at hand, students develop their vocabulary. Because they memorize the spelling by typing the word while the audio plays, they can practice it as a set with the correct pronunciation.
Once they get used to practicing English by typing, they can type at a speed 5 to 10 times faster than practicing by writing with a pencil.
