The new future TV "ABEMA" broadcasted "SHIBUYA ANIME BASE (#ShibuAni)" #90 live on the "ABEMA Anime Channel" from 9 PM to 10 PM on June 26, 2026. In addition to MC Yuki Iwai (Haraichi), Sora Tokui, and Shugo Nakamura, voice actors Yumiri Hanamori and Yui Makino joined as guests, delivering a packed program featuring a special on buzzworthy summer anime, a look back at classic anime, and live readings of heartwarming manga.
In the first half of the program, "World is Dancing," a highly anticipated summer anime set in the Muromachi period, which will begin simultaneous terrestrial and advance distribution on ABEMA on July 2, was featured. The anime depicts the life of Zeami Motokiyo (childhood name: Oniyasha), an important figure in the development of Noh. Yumiri Hanamori, who plays the protagonist Oniyasha, explained the appeal of the work in three points.
Regarding the first point, "Overwhelming animation depicting dance," she enthusiastically praised the "overwhelming visual beauty, with a clear distinction between the stillness and movement of Noh." For the second point, characters, she introduced Oniyasha's contrasting personality, stating, "He's a cute boy with a smile, but he's actually a historical figure who appears in textbooks (later Zeami)." As the third point, she mentioned the gathering of a super-talented cast including Shinya Tsuchiya, Maaya Uchida, and Takahiro Sakurai, and confessed, "The acting is solemn, but it's very at-home." She shared a behind-the-scenes story about how the cast members took turns bringing Japanese sweets as gifts, inspired by a scene in the show featuring dango, and also introduced the cute scripts, whose cover designs changed each time, warming up the studio.
Next, in the "ShibuAni Masterpiece Theater" corner, "Welcome to N.H.K.!," which celebrated its 20th anniversary this year, was featured. When Yui Makino, who played the heroine Misaki Nakahara, appeared, Iwai, a big fan of the series, expressed his love from a niche perspective, saying, "Misaki-chan is too cute! I especially like her shoulder width." Makino deeply resonated with the work, stating, "Things that could happen to anyone are depicted realistically, and it really hits home." For her, it was also a work with strong personal ties, as it was "the second audition I took after becoming a voice actor," and she spoke of the deep bond they still share, keeping in touch with the cast.
She also touched upon an important scene from the latter half that is still talked about today. This was the scene in episode 23 where Misaki tries to form a codependent relationship with the protagonist Tatsuhiro Sato, urging him to sign a contract, only to be rejected with "This is too empty." Regarding this tense moment where Misaki's true nature is revealed, Makino confessed, "It was just the two of us, myself and Koizumi (Yutaka), who plays Tatsuhiro Sato, in the booth, and we poured our feelings into it without looking at the script," overcoming the long lines with a soulful two-person performance. Furthermore, she revealed a raw yet endearing voice recording secret: Koizumi, who was too emotionally invested, unintentionally uttered the line "I'm lonely!" which was not in the script, leading to an NG, surprising the other cast members.
In the following "Will it be Animated!? Topics" corner, the romantic comedy manga "Futari Basu," which has garnered a huge response on social media, was introduced. A live reading was performed with Hanamori as the male middle school protagonist Haruhei Hinoki, Makino as his childhood friend An Takayagawa, and Shugo Nakamura as the other characters and narrator. The sweet and sour story depicting the exquisite distance between characters on a bus, along with Hanamori's superb "boy voice," sent the entire studio into a frenzy of "My heart fluttered!" and "They're definitely going to date!" The program highlighted "the exquisite pauses and atmosphere created on the bus" as the point that could lead to an anime adaptation.
Additionally, during the program, to commemorate the start of the daily free broadcast of all 720 episodes of "NARUTO" on ABEMA from June 26 (Fri) to July 25 (Sat), a segment was held where Iwai and Nakamura presented the appeal of their favorite characters in 30 seconds. Nakamura passionately spoke about the depth of Itachi Uchiha's love, while Iwai meticulously discussed the coolness of Kisame Hoshigaki's final moments, unleashing their passionate "NARUTO" love.
In the next broadcast, #91 on Friday, July 3, Yoshitsugu Matsuoka and Tairou Tenshin will appear as guests. The program will feature the new anime series for the July season, "The Strongest Rearguard: The Beginner Explorer of the Labyrinth Country," and will also include a segment infiltrating the figure manufacturer "Kotobukiya." Please look forward to it.
