Miyama Kirishima Flowers Starting to Bloom in Kirishima City

### What is "Miyama Kirishima"? It is a species of the Ericaceae family distributed in the high mountains of Kyushu. It is designated as the city flower of Kirishima and the prefectural flower of Kagoshima. The reddish-purple flowers color the Kirishima mountains from mid-May to early June. Every year, many hikers visit the Kirishima mountain range to enjoy this scenery.

### Viewing Spots for Miyama Kirishima You can find them around "Takachihonofeng," known for the legend of the Descent of the Sun Goddess's Grandson, and around "Mt. Karakuni," the highest peak in the Kirishima range. Some spots can be reached without intensive hiking. However, note that areas can get very crowded depending on the weather and bloom status; please allow plenty of time for your visit.

### Recent Bloom Status (as of May 13) The current blooming progress is as follows: - Takachiho-kawara (Shikagahara): Starting to bloom (Peak: Late May) - Ohachi Slopes / Takachihonofeng: Starting to bloom (Peak: Late May) - Nakadake Mountainside Trail: 50% bloom (Peak: Mid to Late May) - Mt. Additionally, by using the "Kirishima Jingu Access Bus," which connects Kagoshima Airport to Maruo, Kirishima Jingu Shrine, and Kirishima Jingu Station without transfers, it is possible to complete a day-trip hike from Kagoshima Airport.
