## Revision of the Basic Plan for Forest and Forestry and the National Forest Plan

On June 5, 2026, the Cabinet approved revisions to the Basic Plan for Forest and Forestry and the National Forest Plan.

The new Basic Plan for Forest and Forestry addresses the growing demand for wood utilization from the perspectives of environmental stewardship and well-being. It aims to build a domestic timber supply chain and promote diverse, healthy forest development. By doing so, it seeks to create a virtuous cycle in the forest, forestry, and timber industries, and realize a 'Forest Country and Wood City' that will last for 100 years.

### 1. Basic Plan for Forest and Forestry
This plan comprehensively and systematically promotes policies to enhance the multifunctional roles of forests and the sustainable development of the forestry industry.

**Key Policy Pillars:**
- **Growth of the Forestry and Timber Industry:** Expansion of domestic wood use, promotion of urban wood construction, strategic expansion of product exports, and implementation of smart forestry technologies (remote operation, automated machinery, etc.).
- **Development of Mountainous Areas:** Promotion of 'Forestry Industries' to improve local income.
- **Building a Resilient Supply Chain:** Enhancing reasonable price formation and coordinating log distribution.
- **Ensuring Public Safety and Security:** Strengthening forest conservation measures for national resilience and promoting biodiversity conservation.

### 2. National Forest Plan
Based on the Forest Act, this 15-year plan is formulated by the Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries in accordance with the Basic Plan.

**Key Revisions:**
- Revision of goals and planning metrics (logging volume, afforestation area, etc.) to align with the new Basic Plan.
- Establishment of forest areas capable of efficient operations, and promotion of biodiversity conservation and wildlife protection measures.
