The second application period has opened for the 2026 "NGO Study Program (Mid-Career Professional Development)", hosted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and administered by the NPO Development Education Association (DEAR). The application deadline is August 6, 2026 (Thu).

This program supports mid-career staff belonging to Japanese international cooperation NGOs by providing financial assistance for training and participation in international conferences. Starting this year, in addition to traditional overseas training, training within Japan has also become eligible for support. This allows for the development of more diverse and flexible training plans that align with organizational needs, through learning via collaborations with excellent training institutions and various sectors both domestically and internationally.

Program Overview

Broad support is provided for "practical training" and "classroom-based training" at NGOs, international organizations, universities, think tanks, etc., both domestically and internationally, as well as participation in international conferences.

Eligible Applicants: Mid-career staff (with approximately 3 years of experience) belonging to NGOs with approximately 5 years of proven track record in activities (recommendation from their affiliated organization is required).

Training Period: For a maximum of 1 month between mid-September 2026 and February 28, 2027.

Support Details: Provided based on prescribed standards, including travel expenses (transportation), accommodation costs, training allowances, tuition fees, and host organization expenses.

Training Formats: *Practical Training Type: On-site internships and participation in international conferences (in-person). *Training Course Type: Classroom lectures and seminars at specialized institutions (in-person/online).
