Shizen Energy to Fully Strengthen Renewable Energy Aggregation Business

Shizen Energy Inc. (Headquarters: Fukuoka City, Fukuoka Prefecture, hereinafter "Shizen Energy") will fully strengthen its renewable energy aggregation business, building upon the knowledge gained from its aggregation services launched in December 2021. Shizen Energy, which has been developing its renewable energy business centered on the development and operation of its own power sources, will leverage this expertise to purchase electricity from third-party power sources nationwide at fixed prices, thereby accelerating Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) with major global and decarbonization-focused major Japanese corporate customers. Utilizing business partnerships and other means, the company aims to achieve a handling capacity of 500 MW by fiscal year 2030 and a cumulative 1 GW by 2035.

Solving Structural Challenges in Japan's Renewable Energy Market

In Japan's renewable energy market, alongside government support for the spread of the Feed-in Premium (FIP) system, there is a rapid increase in demand for renewable energy procurement from corporate customers responding to international initiatives such as RE100 and CDP. However, a robust mechanism to connect the diverse, dispersed power sources across the country with demanders under optimal schemes is not yet fully established, leading to a structural mismatch between supply and demand. By fully strengthening this business, Shizen Energy aims to address these challenges and accelerate the adoption of renewable energy in Japan.

Overview of the Renewable Energy Aggregation Business

In this business, Shizen Energy will purchase the power generation and environmental value from power plants (assets) at a fixed price, while the asset owners retain ownership of the assets. We offer a wide range of solutions tailored to the characteristics of the power source and the asset owner's business phase, including various PPA schemes such as Virtual PPAs (VPPAs), utilization of co-located battery storage, repowering support, and one-stop agency services for supply-demand management and certificate management. The target power sources are not limited to solar, wind, or biomass; we can incorporate power sources from all over Japan, excluding Okinawa, into our portfolio. We are committed to treating both self-developed and third-party power sources fairly from the perspective of maximizing asset owners' profits.

Track Record with Big Tech and Full Supply Chain Capabilities — Shizen Energy's Strengths

Shizen Energy has a proven track record of supplying over 100 MW in cumulative virtual PPAs to major global customers such as Google and Microsoft. The company possesses expertise in concluding contracts to global standards and controls the entire renewable energy supply chain (development, asset management, operation and maintenance, energy management). Based on these strengths, we select the optimal exit strategy for each project, whether it be for major global customers, major Japanese customers promoting decarbonization, retail electricity providers, or the power market, thereby maximizing the asset value of asset owners' power sources.
