(Headquarters: Tomioka City, Gunma Prefecture, Representative Director: Shoichi Kikuchi), which operates the authentic safari experience facility "Gunma Safari Park" (Tomioka City, Gunma Prefecture), will hold the "Toyama Prefecture Residents' Appreciation Week (Prefectural Discount)" for 8 days from Saturday, May 9, 2026, to Sunday, May 17, 2026 (excluding May 13, which is a closed day), as a special token of gratitude to the people of Toyama Prefecture.

May 9th, the first day of the event, holds special significance for Toyama Prefecture. On this day in 1883 (Meiji 16), Etchu Province separated from Ishikawa Prefecture, and the current Toyama Prefecture was officially re-established. In 2013 (Heisei 25), marking its 130th anniversary, Toyama Prefecture designated May 9th, the day of its establishment, as "Citizens' Hometown Day" by ordinance, making it a commemorative day for residents to deepen their understanding and pride in their local history, nature, culture, and industries. Gunma Safari Park, naming these 8 days, including "Citizens' Hometown Day," as "Toyama Prefecture Residents' Appreciation Week," extends a heartfelt special discount to the people of distant Toyama Prefecture.

During the period, by presenting identification confirming residency in Toyama Prefecture, admission fees will be free for children (3 years old to elementary school age) and 1,000 yen off for adults, offered at a special price. This discount applies to "admission fees" for visitors entering by private car; options such as in-park bus tours, guided tours, and various experience fees are not eligible. Tickets can be purchased at the counter on the day of the visit, but advance purchase on the official website is recommended to alleviate congestion.

Amidst the beautiful greenery of May, please enjoy an exciting time at Gunma Safari Park, where powerful wild animals such as lions, giraffes, Sumatran elephants (which can only be seen in Japan at our park), and white tigers (boasting the largest number kept in Japan) show their lively forms.

About Toyama Citizens' Hometown Day

Toyama Citizens' Hometown Day (May 9th) is a commemorative day established by Toyama Prefecture ordinance in 2013 (Heisei 25) to celebrate the official re-establishment of the current Toyama Prefecture on May 9, 1883 (Meiji 16), when Etchu Province separated from Ishikawa Prefecture.
At that time, in Ishikawa Prefecture, there was a stark opposition between calls for transportation development centered on the Kaga-Noto region and urgent demands for flood control measures for rivers like the Yabegawa and Shogawa in the Etchu region, creating a deep rift over the direction of prefectural administration. Against this backdrop, the strong sentiments of the people of Etchu for their homeland and their desire for self-governance led to the historic decision of prefectural separation.

This day was designated with the aim of enabling residents to deepen their understanding and pride in their homeland's history, nature, climate, culture, and industries, and to build a "Toyama Prefecture with hope and pride." Annually on May 9th, various initiatives are carried out throughout the region to foster attachment to the homeland, such as the free opening of prefectural facilities like art museums and museums.

Starting from this significant "Citizens' Hometown Day," Gunma Safari Park will hold an 8-day appreciation week, hoping that the people of Toyama Prefecture can enjoy a moving experience with animals amidst Gunma's magnificent nature.
