To improve community welfare and ensure swift confirmation of the well-being of elderly individuals living alone in case of emergencies, the community (neighborhood association, volunteer welfare commissioner/child welfare commissioner), the Community Comprehensive Support Center Manjyuen Katsuradani, and the Kishiwada City Council of Social Welfare will jointly launch the second round of applications for the "Key Holding Service (Well-being Confirmation Project)" on July 14, 2026 (Tue).
This project is a model initiative where, in emergencies or when neighbors sense something is wrong, pre-held keys are used to smoothly enter the home, leading to rapid life-saving efforts and well-being confirmation. Currently, it is being implemented for single elderly residents aged 65 and over living in Habu Housing.
14 People Registered in the First Round, with a Thorough Commitment to "Peace of Mind and Safety"
The first round of applications was held on June 16, with 14 residents applying. This service goes beyond simply holding keys; on the same day the keys are received, staff from the Council of Social Welfare (Sha-kyo) and volunteer welfare commissioners visit each target home directly. A thorough process of "unlocking confirmation" is conducted with the resident present to ensure the key functions correctly. (See image).
Keys confirmed to be in perfect working order are then sealed on the spot in a special envelope while the resident watches, and are managed with strict security.
Secure Filing and Storage at Cooperating Facility "Kofukuso"
The important keys received are filed individually, with maximum consideration for personal information and safety. On the following day, June 17, the keys were transported to "Kofukuso," a cooperating facility for this project, and have been securely stored in a locked dedicated safe.
A robust safety net, united by the community, supports seniors living alone.
