We, Non-profit Organization SALASUSU (Reading: Sarasusu, Location: Kitakyushu City, Fukuoka Prefecture, Representative Director: Kenta Aoki), are pleased to announce our selection for the "Soil x MUFG 2nd Edition" grant program, jointly implemented by the Soil Foundation and Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group (MUFG).
Out of 270 applications from organizations tackling diverse social issues such as child-rearing support, cultural preservation, education, and regional challenges, 10 organizations were selected for this program.
SALASUSU is based in Cambodia and works to improve the quality of public education through teacher training. SALASUSU's Initiatives
Non-profit Organization SALASUSU is a certified NPO in Japan that primarily operates in Cambodia.
With the vision of "Enjoy your life journey - Towards a society where everyone can enjoy their life journey," we aim to achieve this vision by delivering high-quality learning to all children through public education.
We are promoting innovation in teacher education by utilizing Japanese-originated school reform methods centered on lesson study, and by connecting theory and practice through deep collaboration with academia. Based in Cambodia, we provide a model case for public education reform that extends to Asia and the world.
Furthermore, we are working to build a community of like-minded individuals interested in education, international cooperation, and social design, by disseminating information and holding events and lectures to collectively consider better ways of education and society. We are also recruiting monthly supporters to continuously sustain our activities.
To expand "learning spaces where no one is left behind," each individual's support creates the next classroom and connects the cycle of learning to the future.
Through this selection, SALASUSU will further promote the development and utilization of a web application to accumulate and visualize practical knowledge in teacher training, and strengthen collaboration with public schools.
Ensuring Teachers' Practical Knowledge Doesn't End with Individual Experience
SALASUSU has worked alongside teachers in Cambodia's educational field for many years.
Through daily school visits, observing classes, and engaging in dialogue with teachers, we have come to feel that the power to truly change education lies in the accumulation of learning and practice by each teacher on the ground.
On the other hand, in the fields of international cooperation and educational support, indicators that are easy to visualize as outcomes, such as the number of school constructions or enrollment rates, often receive attention.
However, in reality, new teaching practices emerge from dialogue among teachers, classes are improved while observing children's reactions, and the very atmosphere of the school changes through the accumulation of small challenges.
It is precisely because SALASUSU has closely observed these on-site changes that we have come to want to preserve, visualize, and connect teachers' learning and growth processes to future practices more carefully.
That knowledge born on the ground does not end with individual experience, but extends beyond schools and regions to improve public education.
We believe that continuously verifying "which practices lead to teacher growth" and "what kind of mutual learning changes the field" will be a driving force for the project itself to advance more effectively.
SALASUSU is working on visualizing learning not to "evaluate" teachers' learning, but to foster better education together with teachers, while staying close to their practical work on the ground.
A scene from lesson study in the JICA Grassroots Technical Cooperation Project "Project for Improving Soft Skills Training Capacity in Vocational Schools." SALASUSU's challenge, which began with life skills training for women, has expanded to soft skills education for young people. The experience of continuously questioning "how learning is fostered" has led to the current public education reform initiatives.

"Student-led learning" is not achieved overnight; it takes several years of dialogue and practice to gradually bring about changes in the classroom and in the teachers themselves.
