The 9th Challenge Cup Kyoto Held

The Japan Para-Powerlifting Federation held the '9th Challenge Cup Kyoto' on May 30 and 31, 2026, at Sun Abilities Joyo (Joyo City, Kyoto Prefecture). A total of 38 athletes, including 36 from across Japan and 2 from India, participated, resulting in five new Japanese records. Notably, Tomohiro Mitsuse and Hiroko Kiryu, both aiming for the LA 2028 Paralympics, set new national records. The growth of young athletes such as Seisei Iinuma and Yusuke Kobari was also evident. The tournament was supported by local residents, companies, and volunteers, and featured a live performance by singer VOG. The federation aims to create a society where everyone can challenge themselves and support each other through sports.
