Yakiniku Makabe (located at 400-1 Shinden Hanakazuka-cho, Ota City, Gunma Prefecture, Representative: Rito Makabe) in Ota City, Gunma Prefecture, will begin offering a new menu item, the 'Gunma Livestock Assortment,' from Wednesday, June 10, 2026. This dish allows customers to savor the appeal of Gunma's livestock industry on a single plate.
Yakiniku Makabe is launching the 'Gunma Livestock Assortment' for 2,596 yen (tax included).
The assortment consists of Joshu Wagyu, Tokoton Pork, and Bakufu Chicken.
By creating a composition that allows customers to enjoy Gunma's proud beef, pork, and chicken all at once, the restaurant aims to provide both local and visiting customers with an experience of 'Gunma's meat culture' itself.
Gunma Prefecture is known as a livestock prefecture supported by its rich natural environment and water resources. Joshu Wagyu has long been cherished as a representative brand of beef from Gunma.
Furthermore, Gunma Prefecture is one of Japan's leading pig-farming prefectures, with approximately 630,000 head of pigs (4th in Japan) and over 30 different branded pork varieties.
Additionally, Bakufu Dori (Bakufu Chicken) is introduced as a branded chicken processed in Gunma Prefecture, raised with ingenuity in feed, such as fortified wheat germ and vitamin E.
Despite these 'regional strengths,' there are few opportunities to taste the appeal of beef, pork, and chicken side-by-side on one plate and truly appreciate the depth of Gunma's livestock industry.
This time, Yakiniku Makabe planned the 'Gunma Livestock Assortment' as an initiative to bring local food resources closer to people through the everyday dining experience of a yakiniku restaurant.
Development Background
Bringing livestock, a source of local pride, closer to the dining table.
Gunma has livestock that it can be proud of on a national level.
However, its value is often discussed within production sites and distribution channels, and for consumers, it often remains just 'vaguely famous.'
What Yakiniku Makabe aimed for this time was to deliver these regional resources in a more understandable way, as a part of everyday experience.
Yakiniku is a dish that can be enjoyed by families, friends, and colleagues. Therefore, the restaurant believes it has great potential as a platform to convey the appeal of local livestock.
Ota City in Gunma Prefecture is known as a manufacturing town, attracting working generations and families.
Yakiniku Makabe has also been supported by a wide range of local customers, from family meals to banquets for corporate and factory workers. With a total of 72 seats, including private rooms and tatami seating, it is a beloved establishment supporting the local dining scene.
This is why this new menu is not just a simple promotional campaign.
It represents the restaurant becoming a 'point of contact' connecting producers with consumers, and local industry with everyday dining.
The 'Gunma Livestock Assortment' embodies this concept on a single plate of yakiniku.

Intent Behind the 'Gunma Livestock Assortment'
Creating a reason to visit based on 'regional value,' not discounting.
New products in the dining industry often lean towards volume or discount appeals.
In contrast, Yakiniku Makabe wanted to transform regional value itself into a reason for customers to visit, rather than relying on price campaigns or flashy topics.
The 'Gunma Livestock Assortment' is not just a value-for-money tasting platter.
It is a product that allows customers to intuitively understand the fact that 'Gunma has this much depth in its livestock industry.'
By comparing the high-quality flavor of Joshu Wagyu, the familiarity of Tokoton Pork, and the lightness of Bakufu Chicken, customers can experience the breadth of Gunma's livestock industry before any explanation.
The term 'local consumption for local production' is widely known, but what is needed now is not just 'using local ingredients,' but also conveying the value of the regional industry and production behind them.
This new menu embodies such awareness of the issues.
Owner's Comment
I entered the food industry at 17, gained experience at Japanese cuisine restaurants, then moved into the yakiniku business. It's been 8 years since I opened Yakiniku Makabe independently.
I believe I've been able to come this far thanks to the wonderful local customers.
It's not a restaurant that has done a lot of advertising, but I've been supported by the connections with the customers who visit us every day.
That's why, this time, instead of just adding a new menu item, I wanted to create something that, as a business operating in Gunma, gives back the charm of Gunma.
Gunma has livestock we can be proud of.
I want people to enjoy it deliciously and naturally as yakiniku, rather than explaining it in a complicated way.
I would be happy if this could be an opportunity for local people to rediscover the goodness of Gunma, and for people from outside the prefecture to think, 'Gunma's meat is interesting.'
Social and Regional Significance of this Initiative
The 'Gunma Livestock Assortment' is not just a new restaurant menu; it is also a small regional communication project that conveys local industry from the dining scene.
Gunma Prefecture is a livestock prefecture with distinctive features in beef, pork, and chicken.
Joshu Wagyu is positioned as a brand of Kuroge Washu (Japanese Black) cattle raised with management suited to Gunma's environment.
Gunma's pork, with its 4th-place national ranking in pig numbers and over 30 brands, has a presence as a 'Pork Kingdom.'
Bakufu Dori is also introduced as a branded chicken characterized by the clarity of its feed and production history.
On the other hand, local resources only become 'regional pride' when they are used.
Eating at a restaurant, talking about it with family, bringing guests, recommending it to people from other prefectures.
The accumulation of such everyday actions leads to the establishment of a regional brand.
This time, Yakiniku Makabe is creating the entry point from the perspective of a restaurant.
'If you want to know about Gunma's livestock, start with this one dish.'
The restaurant will be disseminating this new regional experience from Ota City.
