Miura Peninsula 4 Cities and 1 Town Blue Carbon Project "Seagrass Planting Experience Event" to be Held!

In the 4 cities and 1 town of the Miura Peninsula (Yokosuka City, Kamakura City, Zushi City, Miura City, and Hayama Town), the Miura Peninsula Blue Carbon Promotion Council was established in Reiwa 6 (2024) to promote collaboration in solving common issues such as the loss of seagrass beds (isoyake) and the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions.

Following last year's success, the 4 cities and 1 town of the Miura Peninsula will once again collaborate to hold a "Seagrass Planting Experience Event," where participants can learn about the current state of the ocean and directly experience its importance through activities such as planting seagrass (Zostera japonica) and observing marine life.

Applications will begin on Thursday, April 30, so please apply!

Event Outline

1. Date and Time: Saturday, May 30, Reiwa 8 (2026), 9:30 AM - 1:00 PM (Canceled in case of rain)

2. Location: Yokosuka City Recycling Plaza "Aicle" (5-2931 Uragocho, Yokosuka City, Kanagawa Prefecture)

3. Target Audience: Elementary, junior high, and high school students residing in the 4 cities and 1 town of the Miura Peninsula (Yokosuka City, Kamakura City, Zushi City, Miura City, Hayama Town) (Elementary school students must be accompanied by a guardian)

4. Capacity: 40 people (by lottery)

5. Application Period: Thursday, April 30, Reiwa 8 (2026) - Friday, May 15, Reiwa 8 (2026)

6. Participation Fee: Free
