To combat the increasing frequency of extreme heat in Japan, WAKU Inc., a Fukushima-based agritech startup, has launched the '2026 Summer Stable Production Support Program.' The program utilizes 'WAKUFUL,' a biostimulant containing glutathione that helps plants manage oxidative stress and maintain photosynthesis under high temperatures. Previous trials showed a 36% increase in yield and a jump to 100% premium grade rate for green onions. WAKU is now seeking three large-scale producers for a risk-sharing model where material costs are waived if performance metrics are not met. Applications are open until early June 2026.
