wagamama Inc. (Headquarters: Setagaya-ku, Tokyo; Representative Directors: Shiho Shimoyamada, Honami Uchiyama; hereinafter "wagamama"), which develops the no-limit wear brand "OPT", is releasing the menstrual education program kit "wagamama talk box", which has been adopted and developed under the Saitama City version of SOIP* promoted by Saitama City.
This kit condenses the practical knowledge of athletes proven in the harsh performance environment of sports. It transforms menstrual education from a traditional classroom lecture learning about body mechanics into an opportunity to dialogue and learn the necessary knowledge and specific coping methods needed when demonstrating performance. It is provided as a solution to support menstrual education in schools and the promotion of health management and DE&I in companies.
*Saitama City version of SOIP (Sports Open Innovation Platform): A project hosted by Saitama City and operated by the Saitama Sports Commission. It is an initiative implemented to create new businesses through co-creation between sports and all industries, and to solve local and social issues.
■ Background of Development
Traditional menstrual education primarily focused on learning how the body works. However, in situations where performance is actually required, such as in sports or work, merely understanding the mechanism is not enough; specific coping methods, as well as relationships and environments where one can discuss discomfort and anxiety on an equal footing, are essential.
Through the seminar "OPT wagamama caravan" provided to over 140 clubs and 3,000 female athletes, wagamama became convinced of the importance of sharing correct knowledge and providing opportunities for dialogue not only to the individuals themselves but also to surrounding stakeholders such as coaches, parents, colleagues, and bosses. The "wagamama talk box", developed since October 2025 after being selected for the Saitama City SOIP, is a packaged kit designed so that anyone can create this opportunity for dialogue anywhere.
■ Features of the "wagamama talk box"
Learning through dialogue using quiz sheets and cards
Questions related to knowledge about menstruation and performance are presented in a quiz format. Participants acquire knowledge while enjoying dialogue, simultaneously discussing their own and others' experiences.
Video content supervised by a gynecologist
Supervised by gynecologist Dr. Kaoru Hoshiai. Participants learn the necessary knowledge and specific coping methods through videos to maximize performance.
Experience of touching specific solutions
Includes new sanitary goods such as absorbent shorts. By directly touching specific solutions, participants learn the importance of finding choices that suit them.
■ Calling for Co-creation Partnerships with Schools, Companies, and Local Governments
Based on the real insights gained from demonstration experiments and test implementations within Saitama City, which formed the major foundation for developing this kit, we will continue to further develop our collaboration with Saitama City and advance the construction of a community-rooted menstrual education model.
Leveraging the knowledge from these pioneering examples, we do not only provide a fixed package but flexibly design and propose partnership structures based on themes like the following, tailored to the challenges and resources of each organization.
Implementation in educational settings and system creation: Collaboration towards implementation in schools and club activities, and creating systems (such as turning it into a training program) where on-site instructors can independently conduct training.
Collaboration with corporate SDGs and community contribution activities: Building collaboration models linked to social contribution and the development of the next generation, such as creating systems to deliver menstrual education to local schools and sports sites through corporate resources and support.
Joint verification and development for health management and DE&I promotion: Utilization as in-house DE&I training, and joint development of original content to solve unique challenges.
Whether you say "I want to try using the kit first" or "Is there something we can do by combining this with our company's business or community contribution?", please feel free to contact us even if it's still at the conceptual stage.
