Rainy Season Limited 'Frog Shrine' Event to be Held at Nara Ikimono Museum from June 6, 'Frog Day'

Nara Ikimono Museum (located on the 4th floor of the 'Mi-Nara' complex in Nara City, Nara Prefecture) will hold a limited-time exhibition, 'Frog Shrine,' starting June 6, 2026, which is 'Frog Day,' to reflect the rainy season.

Countless decorations hanging from the ceiling represent the gentle falling rain. Passing through a blue torii gate reveals a small shrine adorned with hydrangeas. At this shrine, where frogs that love the rain live, visitors can pray to the frogs in front of the offertory box. It is a special shrine only available during the rainy season, making one look forward to rainy days.

[Exhibition Area]

This exhibition will feature two types of frogs: the Miyako toad and the pond frog.

An essential part of visiting the 'Frog Shrine' is the 'Kaeru Mikuji' (frog fortune). Inside a frog-shaped ornament, there is a haiku poem about frogs and a message of good luck. After drawing it, visitors can take it home as a lucky charm, making it a perfect souvenir of the visit. (500 yen per draw)

◾ Limited-time Workshop: Make Your Own Candle

A gel candle-making workshop will be held for two days only, on June 20 (Saturday) and June 21 (Sunday) during the exhibition period. Choose your favorite colored sand and glass pieces, pour in the clear gel, and your own original candle is complete. The activity is simple enough for children from around 3 years old to enjoy, making it suitable for both children and adults. (From 1,430 yen per candle)
