SUGENA Inc. (Headquarters: Shibuya-ku, Tokyo, President and CEO: Isao Sugahara), which supports Japanese companies in overseas collaboration and expansion, has made the research report "Definitive Edition 2026 China Physical AI Report - Reading the Winning Strategies for Japanese Companies" freely available on its website. This report summarizes the realities of China's rapidly growing physical AI industry and the "next steps" Japanese companies should take.

The report is supervised by Akihiro Kane, a serial entrepreneur who himself is involved in the social implementation of physical AI, an alumnus of Tsinghua University, and a strategic advisor to SUGENA.

In addition, a free online seminar, "The Reality of China's Physical AI and the Next Steps for Japanese Companies," to explain the contents of this report, will be held on July 23, 2026 (Thu).

Why "Definitive Edition"?

Research Based on Chinese Sources - Carefully collects and organizes publicly available information, local news, and government documents in Chinese that do not appear in Japanese media.

Supervised by an Implementer - Supervised by Akihiro Kane, who graduated from Tsinghua University, founded software companies and served as an executive of listed companies in China, and is currently promoting the social implementation of physical AI in Japan. It is backed by on-the-ground implementation knowledge, not just desk research.

Spans from Finished Products to Core Components - Organizes information not only on finished product manufacturers, which are often highlighted in the media, but also on AI foundation and core component manufacturers, delving into "which companies to partner with and how."

Background: Labor Shortages and National Strategy Simultaneously Demand "Implementation"

"Physical AI," where AI autonomously operates real-world machinery, has entered the implementation phase. China leads in supply, with approximately 85% of global humanoid shipments in 2025 expected to be made in China.

Meanwhile, Japan faces advancing labor supply constraints due to its declining birthrate and aging population, reaching a critical point where labor shortages in fields such as manufacturing, logistics, construction, and nursing care directly impact societal maintenance. In June 2026, the government also announced a policy to invest 10.5 trillion yen by fiscal year 2040 in physical AI as a pillar of its growth strategy, with both public and private sectors involved.

With the "global trend," "Japan's urgent need," and "national strategy support" all aligning, the question now is how to leverage this wave in a way that aligns with economic security.

SUGENA aims to be a neutral hub that presents a practical solution: a "separation architecture" where "China provides the hardware, while Japan handles the brains, applications, data processing, and core components," and supports its implementation.

President's Comment (Isao Sugahara)

"The wave of physical AI is a wave that Japan should leverage. While China leads in supply, Japan can contribute value through its brains, applications, data, and domestic manufacturing. This report provides a roadmap on how to utilize what our close neighbor possesses, while carefully considering economic security."
