■ SUGENA's Unique Perspective

Our company handles China cross-border open innovation and possesses over 20 years of practical experience and local networks in Chinese business. This report is based on "actual operational site data" collected in collaboration with our research partners in China.

It presents case studies of implementation in power infrastructure inspection, EV factories, hospitals, etc., and offers six suggestions for immediate actions Japanese companies can take.

While a large amount of information on Physical AI in China flows in daily, many feel "it's hard to tell which information accurately reflects the current situation or how it relates to our own company." This report was created with the aim of answering that question.

■ Three Discoveries from the Report

① Power infrastructure inspection robots have reached an "immediately usable" level.

Unmanned inspection robots for substations and underground cable tunnels have been commercially introduced in over 600 cases in China, achieving significant reductions in manual labor. For Japan's power and equipment management industry, facing challenges such as aging infrastructure, labor shortages, and increasing inspection costs, reference cases are now readily available.

② A separated design of "Chinese hardware + Japanese OS/applications" is a realistic solution for security concerns.

While the pros and cons of procuring Chinese products are debated due to security concerns, a demonstration experiment conducted in March 2026 at the University of Tsukuba Hospital utilized a Unitree G1 robot from China, equipped with an OS and business applications developed by two Japanese companies. All verification items within the hospital were completed, and the hospital director commented, "We are positively considering full-scale introduction within 1-2 years."

③ 2027-2030 is the "time to move" for Japanese companies.

The cost of high-performance humanoid robots is expected to reach 1-1.5 million yen per unit between 2027 and 2030 (UOB Kay Hian, 2026). This approaches a level where Japanese companies can project ROI, making it a phase where companies that start preparations now can gain a first-mover advantage.
