(Toshima-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director: Sachiko Nakajima) and Asia-Pacific Trade Center Corporation (Osaka City; Representative Director and President: Shigeru Kimura) concluded a comprehensive partnership agreement on Thursday, April 30, 2026, aiming to inherit the network and momentum generated by Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, into the future and create new learning, culture, and industry based in the Sakishima area. This agreement signifies a collaboration between steAm, which promotes STEAM education and cultural creation, and ATC, a core hub in Osaka's Sakishima area. By utilizing each other's human, intellectual, and spatial resources, they aim for sustainable regional development and the creation of new value. Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai 'Playground of Life Jellyfish Pavilion' at Asia-Pacific Trade Center Background of the Comprehensive Partnership Agreement steAm produced the signature pavilion 'Playground of Life Jellyfish Pavilion' at Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, creating diverse experiences that integrated music, art, science, and technology. As an initiative to inherit this legacy, the 'After Expo Kurage Festival (KURAGE Festival)' was held on February 28, 2026, with the cooperation of ATC. Through multinational music lives, cultural exhibitions, and immersive experiences, over 1,200 participants rekindled the excitement and connections of the Expo. On August 8th and 9th, 2026, an expanded legacy event, tentatively named 'After Expo Kurage Festival (tentative),' will again be held at Sakishima ATC, also serving as an Expo reunion. These initiatives are intended to continue in the future. Sachiko Nakajima, who served as a signature project producer for Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, was among the initiators of this event, which started with the question, 'Is garbage really just garbage?' as part of the Expo's efforts towards resource circulation. This year, the event consisted of three parts: a 'talk event related to garbage,' a 'garbage instrument workshop,' and a 'garbage instrument live performance.' Various discarded materials, which had become 'garbage,' were seen as 'raw materials for instruments,' and their sounds were focused on. In the garbage instrument workshop, participants were engrossed, enjoying the process of breathing new value, 'sound,' into 'garbage,' truly becoming a place where life flourished. Towards the end of the event, participants, holding their self-made garbage instruments, joined a performance by the KURAGE Band led by Sachiko Nakajima! The event concluded with great excitement.
