SPinno Inc. (Headquarters: Chuo-ku, Tokyo; CEO: Hideki Matsubara; hereinafter "SPinno"), which provides "SPinno," a cloud service that solves operational challenges in sales promotion, conducted an online survey on "Changes in the Production and Procurement Environment for Promotional Materials" targeting 220 men and women aged 20 to 50 who work for companies that use promotional materials and are involved in the planning, production, ordering, procurement, inventory management, and distribution of these materials to stores/locations. (209 valid responses).

In recent years, against the backdrop of rising raw material prices, increasing logistics costs, and changes in the international situation, the environment surrounding each company's promotional activities has been changing significantly.

Amid concerns about increased costs and impacts on delivery times in the production and procurement of promotional materials, companies are being called upon to review their promotional strategies and operational structures.

Therefore, this survey was conducted to ask staff involved in promotional operations about changes, challenges, anxieties, and areas for future improvement related to the production, procurement, and management of promotional materials over the past year.

Based on the survey results, the report organizes the challenges faced by promotional staff and industry-specific trends, and considers the future direction of promotional material operations.

Survey Results (Excerpts)

The most frequent response regarding changes in promotional material operations over the past year was "Logistics and delivery costs increased" (27.8%). This was followed by "Revised promotional material content in response to price/supply changes, etc." (24.9%), and "Revised/considered production and procurement systems" and "Orders for production/procurement quantities were suppressed / instructions were given to reduce inventory" (each 22.5%).

Regarding challenges and anxieties in the production, ordering, inventory management, and store deployment of promotional materials, "Judgment on revising promotional materials in response to price/supply changes, etc." was the most common (29.7%). Approximately 30% of promotional staff indicated difficulty in judging the extent to which promotional materials should be revised in response to changes.

In terms of areas for future improvement and perceived importance, "Making it easier to check ordering, inventory, and delivery status" was the most frequent response (25.8%), followed by "Stabilizing delivery times while suppressing production costs" (24.9%), and "Efficiently managing small-lot, multi-variety production/ordering" (23.0%).

In addition to the overall results, this survey report also presents excerpts of items showing characteristics by industry, job content, and department.

Trends in challenges and improvement needs for promotional material operations are organized for attributes that showed differences compared to the overall results, such as food and beverage manufacturers, apparel and textile manufacturers, and retail and distribution industries.

Detailed trends by attribute can be found in the survey report.

Analysis/Summary from Survey Results

From these results, it can be inferred that promotional staff, while recognizing the occurrence of issues such as cost fluctuations and changes in the supply environment that are difficult to address solely within their own companies, are accepting them to some extent as unavoidable.

Furthermore, as improvements that can be made within their own companies, interest was shown not only in cost reduction but also in reviewing promotional material operations themselves, such as making it easier to grasp ordering, inventory, and delivery status, establishing systems that allow for flexible production and ordering of necessary quantities, and reducing stockouts and excess inventory.

Going forward, it is considered important to build an operational foundation that enables stable and efficient execution of promotional activities even in a rapidly changing environment, not just managing the production progress and suppliers of promotional materials.
