Chika Kaneko, Representative Director of Rosette Plus Co., Ltd., a pet care service provider, opened a comprehensive care facility specializing in senior dogs and young dogs requiring nursing care on November 1, 2025.

And from this spring, the senior dog daycare service has also officially started!

While the average lifespan of dogs is increasing year by year due to advances in veterinary medicine and dog food, the support system for senior dogs and their owners is not yet fully developed. Families with elderly dogs often face a complex combination of problems such as "difficulty leaving them alone for long periods," "increased physical and mental burden due to care and supervision," "anxiety about finding a place to leave them," "isolation during the end-of-life period," and "symptoms in elderly dogs that cannot rely on surgery or medication." These issues increasingly affect the owners' lives and health. In veterinary hospitals, medical treatment is the primary focus, and consultations regarding daily care, supervision, and quality of life (QOL) often have nowhere to go.

Rosette Plus was established as a community-based specialized care hub for senior dogs to address this social gap. By creating a system in the community where care is not "borne alone," it plays a role in connecting animal welfare and human welfare, such as reducing caregiver fatigue, deterring abandonment, and preventing emotional isolation during the end-of-life period.

As dogs age, they require care similar to human nursing care, such as difficulty walking due to weakened legs, bedsores and contractures from being bedridden, reversal of day and night cycles, cognitive decline, and assistance with eating and excretion. However, in reality, owners face problems such as "caregiving while working," "sleep deprivation due to night crying," "mental and physical exhaustion," and "anxiety about finding a place to leave them," suffering from the "reality that love alone cannot sustain it." The biggest difference between general pet hotels or boarding facilities and senior dog daycare is that it is not "just a place to leave them," but "a place to maintain and improve physical functions and quality of life (QOL)."
