Exhibition Proposing the Potential of Recycled Plastic, 'REMARE Plastic SUMMIT 2026', to be Held at KOKUYO Tokyo Shinagawa Office 'THE CAMPUS'

REMARE Inc. (Headquarters: Nagoya City, Aichi Prefecture; Representative Director: Masayuki Mase) will co-host the recycled plastic material exhibition event 'REMARE Plastic SUMMIT 2026' with KOKUYO Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Osaka City; President: Hidekuni Kuroda, hereinafter 'KOKUYO') and Kaunet Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo; President: Noritomo Miyazawa, hereinafter 'Kaunet'). The event will be held for four days from Tuesday, October 13 to Friday, October 16, 2026, at KOKUYO's Tokyo Shinagawa Office 'THE CAMPUS'. Seven Japanese manufacturing companies and cutting-edge designers will team up to unveil products made from recycled plastic born from waste materials. The goal is to achieve the social implementation of recycled plastic as a 'material of choice'.

This is the 'REMARE Plastic SUMMIT' project organized by REMARE. The first edition was held in 2025 (venue: SKWAT KAMEARI ART CENTRE), and as a company involved in the development and manufacturing of material recycling materials for waste plastic, it has been exploring new material applications through collaborations with companies and creators.

Faced with the reality that 'approximately 60% of waste plastic is incinerated,' how can a company that develops and manufactures material recycling materials address this? As a next step, aiming for the social implementation of domestically produced recycled plastic as a 'material of choice,' seven pairs of manufacturing companies and designers will collaborate. The goal is to create products that embody the story of the waste materials and give back to the companies and society.

Waste plastic (= petroleum resources) is largely converted into thermal energy through thermal recycling (*a method of incinerating/burning waste and using the generated heat energy for power generation or heat sources). However, this is a process where resources are lost, not a 'circulation of materials,' and may be excluded from the definition of recycling in the future. Globally, the limits of dependence on thermal recycling are being pointed out, and methods other than conversion to thermal energy are being sought.

- Using proprietary technology to 'store' limited resources without burning them

REMARE has established a method unique in Japan that allows waste plastic, which could previously only be handled through thermal recycling, to be treated as material recycling through its proprietary 'heat compression' technology. It converts waste plastic that was destined to be burned into 'recycled plastic material' with a unique character, presenting the option of storing limited resources within society.

- From a stable production system to the next step

REMARE has advanced the development of recycled plastic materials and data collection, establishing a stable production system. On the other hand, recognition in the architecture and product industries is not yet sufficient, and accumulating construction knowledge and sharing images of material use are required as the next steps. This project, 'REMARE Plastic SUMMIT,' aims to serve as a bridge for this.

- Towards a 'material of choice.' Expanding recognition through design and exhibitions

By shaping the potential of materials into concrete prototypes together with designers and artists, and through exhibitions, we will expand recognition and opportunities for use within the industry. The next landscape REMARE envisions is not just recycling vast amounts of plastic waste, but establishing recycled plastic as a 'material of choice' in the fields of architecture and products.

- 'REMARE Plastic SUMMIT 2026' to be Held

For the second edition in 2026, industrial designer NAO IWAMATSU will serve as creative director, and seven pairs of companies and designers (including in-house designers) will participate in the project.

Japanese manufacturing companies that provide materials will team up with cutting-edge designers, drawing on the characteristics and stories of the waste materials selected by the companies, to create products that will be returned to the activities of each company.

The designed products will be widely unveiled at the 'Plastic SUMMIT 2026' held from October 13 to 16, along with the stories of the materials, proposing to society the unique potential of products made from recycled materials, which virgin materials do not possess.

◼︎ REMARE's Previous Initiatives

Based in Toba City, Mie Prefecture, REMARE has been engaged in the material recycling of waste plastic, starting with ocean plastic.

Through repeated research and practice, they succeeded in developing a proprietary technology that can material-recycle not only single materials but also all types of composite plastics. Currently, in collaboration with various companies and organizations, they manufacture material recycling products, mainly板材 (boards/panels), using waste plastic and waste materials derived from companies and organizations.

REMARE's products are characterized by their high design quality and the fact that they can be recycled again as materials after use.
