Luup Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Shinagawa-ku, Tokyo; CEO: Daiki Okai; hereinafter "Luup") and Osaka City's Kita, Konohana, and Suminoe Wards are pleased to announce that they have signed a partnership agreement concerning the verification of joint port utilization on public land for shared bicycles and other services, effective April 23, 2026 (Thu).

Background

With the mission of "creating infrastructure that makes the entire city feel like a station," Luup operates the micro-mobility sharing service "LUUP" to solve mobility issues across Japan. Currently, the service has over 17,900 ports and has surpassed 6 million app downloads, growing into one of Japan's largest micro-mobility sharing services (※).

In the Osaka area, services began in April 2021 in the Kita (Umeda) and Minami (Namba) districts, and the Tennoji area. Services are now available in all wards of Osaka City, with over 2,300 ports.

Osaka City is working with businesses to create a safe, secure, and convenient environment for shared bicycles and similar services, including demonstration experiments. This is because promoting shared bicycles and other services can lead to increased visitor circulation, improved mobility convenience for citizens, CO2 reduction, and measures against abandoned bicycles, contributing to environmental protection and health promotion.

Looking ahead to city-wide expansion of shared bicycle services, it is expected that installing ports on public land and allowing vehicles from multiple operators to use them jointly will further enhance mobility convenience for citizens and promote service adoption.

With the signing of this partnership agreement, Luup will install new ports at a total of 10 locations: 6 in Kita Ward, 2 in Konohana Ward, and 2 in Suminoe Ward, to verify the effectiveness of joint port utilization on public land and its future direction. Luup will continue to focus on safety awareness and measures in collaboration with local governments, evolving the service to be used with peace of mind by everyone in the community.

※...Research by Luup. Comparison based on publicly available information regarding the number of ports nationwide by micro-mobility sharing operators as of July 2024, and publicly available information regarding app download numbers by micro-mobility sharing operators as of July 2025.
