Now that generative AI has entered patent practice, “failures” are quietly but surely accumulating on the ground. The pitfalls of AI translation, the overconfidence in AI analysis—what they both have in common is that they “look good at first glance.”

**Why do failures occur in the patent x AI field?**
Generative AI is certainly powerful. It can perform tasks requiring “breadth and speed,” such as summarizing vast public documents, developing synonyms for keywords, and primary translation of foreign patents, several times faster than humans.

However, AI is an engine that outputs “plausible sentences”—not correct sentences, but sentences that appear correct.

In the field of patent translation, careful verification of AI translations sometimes reveals legally fatal errors hidden within seemingly fluent sentences. In the field of patent analysis, blindly trusting AI-outputted classification results or summaries carries the risk of misinterpreting the scope of rights.

So, how should it be used? What should be entrusted to AI, and what should humans handle?

We will hold a seminar that directly answers these questions from two perspectives: translation and analysis.

The rapid evolution of generative AI has significantly transformed the environment surrounding patent translation. As AI is embraced as a powerful support tool, the role of translators has shifted towards more advanced technical and legal verification.

AI translations often look very good at first glance. However, careful verification reveals hidden problems. To use it correctly, one must grasp these issues and filter out errors.

We will share practical knowledge cultivated on the ground, covering know-how and caveats when using AI in patent translation, and human management initiatives within companies for handling AI.

While misconceptions like “a patent map will be completed if you just throw it to AI” or “there’s a magic prompt” are rampant, organizations that fail to implement AI share common patterns.

We will explain how to delineate areas that should be entrusted to AI (breadth and speed) versus areas that should not (depth and meaning-making), and design AI utilization according to the level of business risk. We will also specifically address how to create prompts that prevent hallucinations and the concept of AI-in-the-Loop, which redesigns workflows with a “human → AI → human” sandwich structure.
