JR East Smart Logistics Co., Ltd. has been developing and installing the multi-functional locker 'Multi-Ecube' since October 2023, which features 'four functions in one unit' (reservation, deposit, pickup, and shipping). The company has been expanding its network across Japan, both inside and outside JR stations, and has now surpassed 1,000 units on May 28, 2026.

'Multi-Ecube' will continue to expand its locations and services, aiming to deploy 2,000 units by fiscal 2030. Since the service launch in October 2023, 'Multi-Ecube' has been working on network expansion, achieving 1,000 units on May 28, 2026. In addition to expanding installations and services, the company has developed new models such as drip-proof, low-profile, wide-size, and economy models, and has implemented functional improvements including camera installation and size upgrades. The number of Multi-Ecube WEB members, launched in October 2024, has exceeded 250,000, with many customers using not only regular deposits but also advance locker reservations, pickup, and shipping services. Pickup and shipping services are available at over 430 locations, with monthly usage exceeding 25,000 cases. Multi-Ecube allows users to utilize four functions – 'Reservation', 'Deposit', 'Pickup', and 'Shipping' – in a single unit. This eliminates the need to use different lockers for different purposes, enabling seamless use with just one Multi-Ecube at a familiar station. Except when customers are operating the locker, the doors are always locked, ensuring safe and secure use.

2. Multi-Ecube Website and Shipping Service

The Multi-Ecube website is a web service that requires no download. Users can search for available lockers and, by paying a reservation fee (500 yen) in addition to the usage fee, can reserve a locker. There is also a premium membership plan for 500 yen per month that waives the reservation fee for one month. By making a reservation on the Multi-Ecube website and depositing luggage in a compatible locker, users can also use the service to have items delivered to a designated address such as their home or to their hotel on the same day.

In addition to smartly utilizing the diverse functions of 'Deposit, Reservation, Pickup, and Shipping', Multi-Ecube can also be used as a delivery platform for businesses such as transportation companies and e-commerce site operators to provide products and services.
