CRS (Card Repair Studio), which manages a community for card repair information, has officially launched its full-scale card restoration service following the establishment of a supply system with certified partners. The service, which began on a trial basis in May 2025, operates under the philosophy of "no shaving, no padding, no falsifying." By ensuring transparency through the disclosure of repair processes, CRS aims to transform card repair—often perceived as a "gray" area in Japan—into a healthy and reliable culture.

Challenges in the Japanese Card Repair Industry

Trading cards, including Pokémon cards, are now a quintessential part of Japanese culture. However, the field of "repairing" damaged cards has long faced serious challenges.

Previously, correct repair information was rarely shared, and a limited few held exclusive access. Furthermore, forceful repair methods that ignored the paper fiber principles of cards became widespread, often resulting in diminished card value or failure to pass grading. There were also instances where the state of the card was falsified during resale after repair, causing financial harm to buyers. Against this background, the image of "repair = gray/black" has persisted.

CRS continues its activities with the desire to fundamentally change this status quo. By ensuring transparency through disclosing the state of the card before and after repair and explaining the steps taken, CRS promotes repair methods based on a theoretical and scientific approach to paper fibers. Within six months of its launch in January 2026, the community reached a scale of 700 members, growing into one of the world's largest card repair communities with participants from across Asia.

About the Restoration Service

Recommended for

Those who want to keep collectible cards in the best possible condition for a long time. Those who want to improve the card's condition as much as possible before submitting it for grading. Those who deal with cards for sale and want to expand their profit margins and sourcing range. Those who want to restore value to damaged cards that would otherwise be sold at a discount.

CRS's Philosophy

CRS's goal is not merely to provide repair technology.

Its mission is to realize an industry where everyone involved in trading cards respects each other and can enjoy this culture without attacking others. In a community of 700, they maintain an operation policy that does not tolerate attacks on others, continuing to build a healthy environment.

"We want to provide a place where cards that were damaged and lost value can shine again." "We want to change the industry itself by having each person act with morality." The restoration service is one initiative that embodies these thoughts.

Future Developments

In addition to the restoration service, CRS will make card repair more accessible through the following activities:

Sharing basic repair information in a free community Hosting repair trial events nationwide Monthly membership for sharing more in-depth repair methods and tool information Collaboration with overseas communities (e.g., joint study sessions with organizers in Taiwan)

CRS will continue to provide practical information for those interested in trading card care, including Pokémon card repair, cleaning before PSA submission, and value recovery for damaged cards.
