In recent years, new movements have emerged in various textile production areas across Japan, with businesses directly delivering the appeal of local technologies and materials to consumers, rather than relying on traditional subcontracting. Under values different from mass production and mass consumption, clothing production that is backed by artisans' handwork, techniques passed down through generations, and the lives of the people working there is now attracting significant attention.
This event will feature Shinya Miyaura, President of Itohen Inc., who has visited textile production areas nationwide and continued to connect them with apparel; Miho Kuroe, Director of D&DEPARTMENT, who has promoted manufacturing from various regions of Japan from a long-life design perspective; and Masaki Matsushita, President of HUIS. They will discuss the technologies and landscapes remaining in production areas, the words of the creators, and the potential of manufacturing rooted in local communities.

HUIS is characterized by its product development centered on Enshu woven fabrics, woven on precious old-fashioned "shuttle looms" that still exist in the Enshu production area. It is a production-area-based apparel brand started in 2014 by Masaki Matsushita (President), who was previously involved in industrial promotion as a former Hamamatsu City official, and his wife. Books "HUIS's Clothing Production" (2024, Shufu to Seikatsusha) and "Choice of Apparel Originating from Production Areas" (2026, Kodansha) have been published.
The "Shibuya Showroom" on the 9th floor (inside garage) of Shibuya Scramble Square is the flagship store, bustling with domestic and international visitors. "Enshu woven fabric" has long been known in the industry as a high-quality fabric for luxury shirts worldwide. HUIS's fabric, woven slowly over 20 to 30 times the usual time, possesses a special texture and functionality.
