Why Seiko Gakuin Introduces 'Tidying' and 'Time Management' to Foster Autonomy in the AI Era

Homeport Inc. (Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo; Representative: Sachi Nishizaki) will host the 'Time Management and Self-Management Seminar' and 'School Supplies Management and Organization' for junior high and high school students at Seiko Gakuin Junior and Senior High School (Yokohama, Kanagawa Prefecture) on July 14, 2026.

In recent years, the education sector has focused on nurturing not only academic ability but also 'autonomy,' 'self-management skills,' and 'non-cognitive skills.' Seiko Gakuin, one of the top schools for Tokyo University admissions, has introduced this program for four consecutive years as part of its efforts to foster students' ability to think, choose, and act for themselves.

This seminar positions 'tidying up' and 'time management' not merely as life skills, but as educational programs that cultivate the ability to identify issues, set priorities, and act.

■ Reasons for Seiko Gakuin's 4-Year Commitment
Seiko Gakuin intentionally limits personal space in classrooms and club rooms, based on the educational philosophy of 'sharing limited communal spaces comfortably.'

However, in daily school life, club equipment and personal belongings often create clutter in shared areas. In this seminar, students learn to distinguish between 'personal responsibilities for lockers' and 'shared spaces for everyone,' providing an experience where they think and act on their own.

It is implemented continuously as an educational activity to foster consideration for shared spaces, self-management skills, and social awareness, rather than making tidying up the end goal.

■ Why Tidying is Education Now
With the evolution of AI, access to knowledge and information has become easy. Conversely, the importance of being able to decide 'what to choose and how to act' independently has grown. Tidying is not just organizing; it is a series of daily decision-making exercises to judge what to keep, what to let go of, and what to prioritize.

■ Continuous Program Connecting Parents and Students
This initiative is a continuous program approaching both students and parents. A lecture for parents was held in May, and the seminar for students will be held in July. This structure builds autonomy through combined efforts from both home and school.

Launched in 2023, the program has reached 310 students to date.
